HDMI ARC in - low volume/too quiet

Yes, I have the Ultra connected to the analogue input of a Cambridge audio Minx xi. If I connect the optical from the TV directly to the Cambridge the volume is much louder (can't test with HDMI ARC)

I set the output to PCM, the volume is now only slightly higher, but it remains significantly lower than when connected directly to the amplifier. The same thing happens with optical. The Ultra recognizes both signals as LPCM and not PCM, could that be the point?
In this context, LPCM is the same as PCM. On the Sony TV settings is the digital audio output volume set to 100%? Does the pre-gain on the Ultra do anything?

Finally chiming back in here as i've just been busy! Not sure what exactly corrected things for me, but some reboots later of all of the things in the chain and perhaps an update or something, my TV/HDMI pre-gain setting started working and at the max of +10dB, levels are good and i've been using it like this for a couple of weeks now. Thanks to everyone who chimed in!
