How long to index audio files?

Just bought the Ultra to stream audio files from my Windows PC. I have downloaded the Wiim Home app onto the PC and selected to add one of the music folders containing 510gb of audio files. It has been 8 hours and It is still adding (indexing) that folder. It only took 4 minutes or so yesterday to add a 22gb folder.
Is that length of time normal or should I somehow stop it and restart?
The hard drive of that folder is not part of a NAS, it's just a simple disk of SATA storage.
I haven't been able to use my Wiim yet because of this process.
Is this length of time to index that quantity of data normal?

It's not quite my field of expertise but it's often quoted on the forum that the Windows version of the Wiim Home App (WHA) is in constant beta & not updated that regularly. It may well have failed you.

You might want to consider an alternative means of indexing via running either Minimserver or Lyrion Music Server (LMS) on your PC both of which have advantages over WHA.

If your control point is primarily going to be your PC I would suggest LMS for it's flexibility - others may of course have a different opinion/favourite.

Of course the PC would need to be running to make use of either of the servers but reading your original post it sounds like your source drive is mounted in the PC & therefore it would need to be on anyway.

It's probably scraping the artist images, bio's and social media links...or it's hung.

Can't you install a music server on the NAS?

Yes, that app is in beta. I expressed my concern about it to Wiim, but they said it's fine. I have my doubts!
My drives are mounted in my PC cabinet except two that are in external enclosures. I plan on getting a small NAS at some point.
Are Minimserver and Lyrion freeware?
I will look into those.
Thanks for all of that great information!

The basic version of Minimserver is free and does the basics, there's a paid version with more features. I use the basic version as a quick method of searching when using the WHA on my mobile.

LMS is completely free, and with the material skin installed (easy to do from within the server) has a great interface with a lot of useful features (including album and artist info scraped from the web).

I run both, minimserver directly from a NAS and LMS now via a Raspberry Pi (after a bit of help with permissions from the guys on the Lyrion forum - including a name I see regularly here too @d6jg) accessing the same music folder on the NAS.

I now have the best of both worlds.

Like I say both will run on your PC, and LMS should be simple to set up given your music is on the same PC. Give them both a try and see what your personal preference is. You can always consider a NAS later.

I will do that! Thanks so much for the information.

Well, every time I try to download Lyrion music server from their site, I get "Virus scan failed" and I can't figure out how to make it download. I use Chrome browser. I've disabled Adblock, CCleaner; and Windows Defender. I even tried through the browser LibreWolf. How can I get it to download?

I just tested a download of build 9.0.2 via Edge. I got plenty of warnings it isn't a commonly downloaded file (we'll err yeah, it's a recent build ) but after bypassing/acknowledging a few more warnings it allowed the download.

If all else fails, let me know.

I just downlaoed Lyrion 9.0.2 windows 64 bit.
It downlaods clean.
I am running Windows 11, Chrome and Bitdefender and get no virus warnings for the download
You may get an 'unknown publisher' warning when you open the download but that can be safely ignored

When the indexing is not complete, you can still browse and play music through the folder view under My Music. If it's convenient, please tap the “?” icon in the app to send us a log — this will help us investigate further.

I will do that! Thanks so much for the information.

I have LMS, 500GB shouldn't take more than an half an hour.

On my pi5 with picoreplayer it takes about 4 hours to scan 10TB of music, and that's with the music on a NAS so it's reading across the wired gigabit network, not a local SATA/USB3 HDD

I have installed Lyrion Media Server on my PC. It is running and I have added the file (Server Settings - basic settings- media folders) folder that contains music on my PC.
I have disabled the VPN on my phone and PC.

I have the Wiim Home App open on my phone and it shows my Wiim Ultra. The Ultra is connected to my network by ethernet. But when I select "Browse" then "Home Music Share" on the app, it searches for my media server (Lyrion?????) but does not locate it. It just searches endlessly. I have had this Wiim thing a week and haven't figured out how to use it.

Someone please help me. Wiim is completely useless for "customer service ". What am I doing wrong? Is this thing really this convoluted to use?

Have you enabled sharing of your music files on your PC or installed the UPnP/DLNA Media Interface plugin for Lyrion ?

Those advising Lyrion should have told you that it's a replacement for the WHA which uses the Ultra as a renderer.

I'm sure one of the Lyrion users will be along soon with instructions.

Have you read the FAQ "How to Stream Music from LMS to Your WiiM Device with Squeezelite"?

You need the LMS app, I download it via F-Droid, then search for LMS
