Hello Wiim community! I've another wiim equipment - Ultra. I want use it on line-in with cd player. I have Denon DCD 900NE. When connect by RCA Wiim made weird noises and crackles during listen music.
-cd player by coax or optical to Wiim everything is clear
-cd player by RCA to line-in of another amplifier everything is clear
-another device (I tried Lumin T3) by RCA to line-in of Wiim and is perfect clear !

What wrong ? some problem with ground in Wiim ? maybe rca socket hasn't gnd ?
Lumin has better ground system but this Denon isn't ?
I tried moreover than Denon some small devices with analog output like Xiaomi Mibox and big noises, crackles also occurs.
I haven't nothing more devices with build-in DAC but this 900NE is 100% well !
I tried many RCA interconnects/cables - so this is not reason.

Please help maybe someone has this denon device and can test this connection? I am attaching a video...

Hi,

Please try changing the line-in resolution in the audio input settings of the WiiM app to see if the noise goes away.

thanks gentlemen :)

In general knowledge CD should has a 16 bit resolution but Wiim works a different?
Change from 16 to 24 settings - it worked then, but it's still some single distortions.... Generally, I can finally listen to music :)

@WiiM Team are you able to do something about this in the next update? This is a bit strange way to fix it.

The CD resolution is not relevant when using line in (line out of CD), as the signal is analog. The WiiM ADC resolution is configurable and seems to work best with 24/96.

This has nothing to do with the rate of the CD; I believe it is the resolution setting when Ultra uses the ADC to digitize the signal from the analog line input.

If you are connecting the RCA outputs of a CD player to Ultra, it goes through both the CD player's DAC and Ultra's ADC,DAC.

Since you may want to use the optical output if possible.

I almost returned this CD player - if you claim that 24/96 is best, why doesn't Wiim have it on default value?

Not everyone will mess around with resolution options.....not everyone will think to check and ask on the forum....let me see if they write about it in the instructions....;-)

Why not use the digital optical output?

Denon's DAC has slightly warmer sound - I like changes sometimes and if I wanted raw transport of CDs I wouldn't buy this
Just note that the WiiM ADC will also be involved and may also affect the sound.

That's not optimal and a "warmer" sound can usually be achieved by EQ in the digital domain. The "warmer" sound is often associated with a slight boost in the lower midrange or a gentle roll-off in the higher frequencies.

You may also have a small amount of harmonic distortion in the CD DAC that you hear as adding warmth to the sound, similar to the effect of analog components like vacuum tubes.
