Hi

I am very lazy and love features like auto-sensing.
So I will share the results of a little test I did on how the WiiM works with auto-sensing.
I investigated how the WiiM device works in three different states

During playback = audio signal is being input to WiiM
While idling = nothing is playing and the device is silent
On standby = the LED indicator is dimmed

🤩 = Worked fine
😱 = Didn't work
🤔 = Switching after about 15 seconds, or unstable operation
[Auto re-switching/Yes] = Previous source playback continues and can be re-switched
[Auto re-switching/No ] =Previous source playback continues but can't be re-switched

My opinions.
As a result of frequent updates, it works more seamlessly than before. There is still room for improvement in Line-in and Optical-in behavior, but at least it is superior to my AVR. (In fact, it is extremely rare to find a device with this kind of functionality, isn't it?)
I applaud the @WiiM Team.

*Switching to Bluetooth input is not auto-sensing, but is an action when the connection is made.
*Perhaps the behavior will be the same for all WiiM devices, but I have not actually tested all devices. Also, USB has not been tested.
*This is not a perfect verification result. If you find any mistakes, please let me know. I make mistakes frequently.
*The behavior may change (or improve) with future updates.

Thank you🤗

Good work!

And the forum really does need a place for durable information & faqs.

Nice overview! Well done.

Ugh, the only thing my wife hates about the WiiM is how slow it is with picking up the optical-out signal from our TV.

There is a FAQ of sorts under the Latest Resources section on the forum list page, as well as the help pages https://faq.wiimhome.com/en/support/solutions

The problem with a faq in my experience is that users seldom search them or the forum before asking their question anyway…

Great research. Auto switching is — as far as I’m concerned — one of the killer features. It probably much harder to implement than it looks.

The lack of auto switching to the optical input when the TV using the HDMI input is turned off and the optical in stream is activated is a pain for me. Works well the other way round ie. HDMI turned on , which is great but it doesn't seem to matter how long you wait, the optical doesn't switch on once the HDMI goes off... You have to do it manually.

Anyone I should direct this to? I have a wiim pro plus. My phone is connected via wifi and echo dot via line in. When I have been streaming via airplay on my phone to my wiim pro plus and stop, then when I ask Alexa a question the auto sensing for line in does not work. It only works if I ask Alexa to play music, and then it appears to switch. Obviously, I would like it to recognize Alexa voice also

Does this mean that the WiiM auto-sensing does not recognize Alexa's announcement voice?

What happens when you ask Alexa to "sing a song"? 😁

Is it a timing thing? Alexa responses tend to be immediate, so might get missed during the auto sensing period, while music tends to buffer and then play? Or would the buffering not trigger auto sensing anyway?

I don't know the details, but the length of the announcement audio may have something to do with it. There is another thread talking about auto-sensing of line input, so I'll test this later as well.😄

I don't know why, but when I connect the Echo's AUX-out to the Ultra's Line-in, no sound comes out...

So I connected the WiiM mini's AUX to the Ultra and tried voice control of the remote paired with the Mini.

I asked the Mini, "What's the weather like tomorrow?", and after a few moments the Ultra's input switched from Wi-Fi to Line-in. It takes a little while to switch over, but the auto-sensing is working to a point.😄

Yes for some inputs it takes quite a while, so I thought it was actually not working at all..

Hdmi is instantly (thanks to CEC of course)
Phono input is pretty quick
Optical takes a few seconds in my case

Yes, switching to optical input often takes a long time. By comparison, line-in (when playing music) is fast: when music is played on the Mini, the Ultra's input switches to line-in in 3 seconds. 😊
