Here's a little winter project now that there's snow on the ground. It's free to the world, so go may snowmen while the snow flies! :)

Some of you on the forum have a NAS or server with Docker -- this is for you. I took the lists kindly provided by Brantome / @Burnside and @pieterv1 and made a DLNA service for Docker using Gerbera and a bit of python to massage the #EXTM3U list into some groups. The result is a DLNA service of all the radio stations organized into some custom groups from the list. The DLNA output is organized into subfolders based on the groups.

The docker-compose.yml is self-contained, so should work as is with a recent docker server (YMMV). I used Gerbera for DLNA, but you could easily subsitute your own fave DLNA thingy. Links go stale and some of the links may not work in this proof of concept. Feel free to prune out any link that isn't working :) Yes, one can manage the m3u lists separately, but this is an all-in-one repeatable bit of code that can be spun up as needed.

I did suggest to WiiM some time ago that we should be able to save and load such playlists under the Open Network Stream feature, but unfortunately they haven’t implemented that…

WiiM have finally added import/export of radio station lists under Open Network Stream in v3.5.0 of the app

How does it work?
Much as you’d expect - there are now import and export options which save the list as a m3u file (whose format I haven’t yet looked at). Does seem to have a few quirks that I’ll probably submit a ticket for - the list on screen seems to apply to all your devices I.e. doesn’t change when you change device, and it also doesn’t refresh automatically when you re-order items under its edit menu. A significant step forward nonetheless

This is all I see 🤔

I noted that the import option is additive I.e. doesn’t overwrite the current entries, just adds to it. If you want it to overwrite, you need to clear the list first. Maybe an option on import to overwrite/add would be cleaner.

Mu3e8 files are generally very degraded in terms of sound quality...a discreet power grab by many radio streaming "actors"...heavy compression...
:-(

Are you on the new 3.5.0 version of the app?

Here’s my iPad screen after tapping the three dot menu to show the important/export dialog. On my Android phone which didn’t have any streams added, it shows Add stream/Import streams

I thought I was but the update is still in the update list. In that case why did my source changes appear in the Recently Played list 🤔

What has the file format of a playlist file got to do with the playback quality of radio stations??

Quel rapport entre le format d'un fichier de playlist et la qualité de lecture des stations de radio ?
Juste un petit avertissement, légèrement hors sujet ;-)
Aucun lien, en effet.

A heads-up for what? m3u8 streams are generally HLS and very good quality. Which streams was your comment based on?
Many large media groups in my country are trying to impose it... but in detail... clearly, the streams are rather low resolution... quite disappointing... similar to the approaches of DAB+ etc.
(It was me who asked Wiim to integrate this type of stream... and they did it quite quickly, thanks to them... I checked it at the time...)

It's not a problem with the format itself... but with what we decide to do with it.

I think we have discussed Radio France HLS streams before. At 280kbps they sound very good.

This is excellent! Best update in functionality (for me) in ages. I already had the playlists so a couple of clicks and there they all were, artwork 'n' all.
