Squeezelite Lyrion “in a box”

Zero experience of this company or the products they sell but they may have something

There used to be Vortexbox but that is now defunct

Good company. I bought a Polyvection DAC32 from them a few years ago. I see that they now sell a newer version of it, so it might suit @Burnside as a fuss free "Lyrion in a Box" solution. They also do a DIGI32 which has digital, rather than phono, outputs.

Closest I would imagine would be Daphile OS, that is an audio only OS bases on LMS that you can run headless even from a USB pendrive on any pc. It will work right "nearly" right away with mayority of pc sound cards or USB dacs without needing to fiddle with configurations but it will still need you to download extra plugins for things as Material Skin or song lirycs, airplay etc.

But has the inherent problems of Lyrion that counts on advanced users to keep it working and updated so for for example you don´t have Spotify Connect any more as the developer of the plugin has not been able access the newest changes done by spotify.

Give it a try, after install it will create a hotspot where you can access by its IP from other phone/computer to set your wifi, output etc...

My impression is that local server software is a dying trade only being catered for by a minute minority of enthusiasts.
Hardly anybody I know has ever ripped a CD nor would they care to do so, not to speak of curating a local library.

They prefer to spend their money on Spotify & Co. and high capacity mobile phone contracts so they can access those services even in their cars or in the train. My guess is that the current vinyl market is bigger than that for local streaming.

Thanks, it’s not a request for me personally as I already “faffed around” ;) a good while ago as per this post

It was more a thought as to whether such a plug and play device existed to attract more users to Lyrion

I have built a few Pi with pCP/LMS for people in the past and if you have some experience they can take less than an hour to get up and running with all the key plugins. The problem, as others have said, is updates and to a lesser extent, maintenance.

Neither is that of Minim Server I‘m afraid. But I agree neither the installation of Lyrion in a docker nor its configuration is anywhere near from intuitive. Without the appropriate background you need the genes of a nerd to get through this.
I haven't even tried to understand Docker 😂.
A lot of posts about issues on the Lyrion forum start with "I run Lyrion in Docker..."

I managed to do that without really understanding the concept. I just did what I could gather from the internet. A situation I genuinely dislike.
But then again, do I understand how a computer really works … 😱.

I'm sure they could but there's just not the demand: https://lyrion.org/analytics/

Note: The numbers reflect those with the analytics plugin enabled, which is promoted during installation but disabled by default.

I know you have the caveat in your last sentence, but I do find it difficult to believe there has been such a reduction in LMS usage over the space of just a year. It makes me wonder if there has been an issue with the analytics plugin for new installations at some point.

Regarding the OP’s question, when I began my streaming journey (as recently as this decade), to begin with there really were such few options, with most being Pi based with LMS or alternative software. Then along came the WiiM Mini which changed everything. While I too would be interested in an all-in-one LMS box, perhaps such a development has missed any opportunity for widespread adoption by not arriving between the release of Material Skin in 2018 and the WiiM Mini in 2022.
