I'm planning to trial Roon to validate the feedback of users and value (find it expensive at this stage) but one mayor drawback that is holding me back so far is the missing Spotify integration as streaming source. I know the work arounds, but looking for direct integration.

Was a nonsense so far, but with Lossless coming ... would you bet your 2 cents that integration will come anytime soon?

I think it’s more “will Roon implement Spotify native integration” which depends on whether there’s a suitable Spotify API and whether Roon would want or be able to attract Spotify users to its platform.

Which suggests there isn’t a suitable Spotify API. From looking into Roon a few years back, Roon give me the impression of demanding a lot in terms of how supported services should act and what they need to deliver to Roon, demands that I wouldn’t be surprised that some services find unreasonable. Services like Qobuz and Tidal probably were happy to accede to these demands to gain more market visibility and credibility, but conversely, bigger players like Apple, Amazon and Spotify perhaps don’t see what benefits it would bring them - indeed they probably ask themselves who is this minor player Roon? YMMV of course :)

started and remained with roon first and still for my stored music. that is the status. the integration of qobuz and tidal was even more than i 'needed'. it is a nice to have bonus. no idea if roon will create any for them significant financial benefit by adding spotify or amazon. apple music would be for sure a bit more appealing. but that is speculation only. of course. repertoire differences between the services are marginal and can be neglected. if i would only use streaming services and not having a big collection of stored music there would be no reason to pay for roon. agreed. till today i rely more on their algorithms than that from the services. (to dig in lyrion i am too lazy.)

Agreed, and this was the survey question: will Spotify be now interested in enabling such integration - providing APIs - and Roon interested to invest in one more provider integration due to the massive market share they have.
