My Music playlists losing songs

Hi,
I have a problem with playlists I make in My Music.

I create a playlist and add songs which I have in my music collection on my NAS.
For a time all songs play fine. But after some time it does not play some songs in the playlist. It just skips them. The icon with the album cover shows a note in a white background while before it displayed the cover. It is still in the playlist but just won't play anymore. When I check the song in my library it is still there and I can also play it. When I add it again to my playlist it works again but I am tired of creating my playlists every few weeks.

Does anyone recognize this problem and have a solution?

What music server are you using? With some servers the track URLs can change during rescans, leading to the scenario you describe.

If the problem is with the server then there is no workaround, as only the URL provides direct access to the tracks.

It might be worth recreating the playlists in another control point (BubbleUPnP on Android or mconnect lite on iOS) so you can check them if/when the playlists in the WiiM Home app fails. At least this would help identify the source of the problem.

In addition to the above, the format of the URL might give us some insight.
  • If you're on Android, install BubbleUPnP, browse to a track and select 'Show metadata' from the vertical ellipsis.
  • On iOS you might be able to use foobar mobile, though it's a bit more complicated:
    • Browse to a track through Browse > Media Servers
    • Long press on a track and select 'Add radio bookmark'
    • Navigate back to the root of the Browse tree and select 'Internet Radio' where the track URL should be displayed
I'm expecting it to be based on MiniDLNA which would look something like: http://192.168.*.*:8200/MediaItems/NN.flac

Thanks for the help SimBun. I think you are right that the url changes when the media server does a new index.
I will try and find out but I am afraid the the playlist will not be working with my media server.

I tried to find Foobar mobile in the app store but I was unable to find it.

Hi, I found and installed foobar2000 on my iphone.
I can access my music server but when I long press on a song, I get this screen and not an option to add a radio bookmark.

Unfortunatelly , I only have one server.
I tried to install my music library on a USB-stick but the WIIM home play was not able to scan due to the large amount.

Damn, it looks like there isn't feature parity between the Android and iOS app, which complicates things somewhat.

The only other way I know to get the track URL is by issuing UPnP commands, which, when using curl on Linux looks like:
Bash:
curl -X POST http://IP-of-WiiM:49152/upnp/control/rendertransport1 \
     -H 'Content-Type: text/xml; charset="utf-8"' \
     -H 'SOAPAction: "urn:schemas-upnp-org:service:AVTransport:1#GetMediaInfo"' \
     -d '<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:Envelope s:encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" xmlns:s="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
  <s:Body>
    <u:GetMediaInfo xmlns:u="urn:schemas-upnp-org:service:AVTransport:1">
      <InstanceID>0</InstanceID>
    </u:GetMediaInfo>
  </s:Body>
</s:Envelope>'
NOTE: Change IP-of-WiiM in the above code.

The resulting xml - which can be formatted at https://jsonformatter.org/xml-formatter - should contain the URL of the current track in CurrentURI.

How large is your collection, and was there an error message?

Hi Simbun,

I believe your conclusion is correct that the rescan is the problem. Well, actually the problem is that the WiiM software does not handle this correctly but there are more flaws in the software. So for now I accept the error and deal with it.

Scanning of my music library (arounfd75 Gb) on a stick just dies somehow. It scan some folders but then it stops without an error-meesage. I think a problem in the WiiM software, I reported it but to no avail.

The Foobar app is a suprpise. I can even play songs from my media server on the WiiM. I could make a playlist there but it is not possible to stream a playlist (or a whole album) to the WiiM. Only seperate songs.
