new small adc ...

My bad, did not see the link.

Unrelated to what? But anyway, as the Minidsp is now available in Europe as well, no need to pursue on the Marmitek 🤗

Has anyone tried the PocketADC with WiiM yet?

I bought one to address a distortion issue I was getting from the Line In on the WiiM Ultra when outputting from my Project Phono Box S2. Anything above 40db gain would distort, even 40db would distort if the WiiM resolution was set to 16bit. Setting to 24bit seems ok.

Current setup is Technics 1200 -> Project Phono -> PocketADC -> WiiM Ultra line in.

However, the WiiM is only seeing the PocketADC as 16bit, but the specs say it should be 24bit. I've tried connecting it directly to my amp (Arcam A5), same issue, it reports 16bit.

What is the DIP switch setting sample rate = off for?
From what I recall, putting both dip switches in the down position resulted in no output. No idea why you'd want to do this. All other dip switch combinations set the sample rate as expected. Expected sample rate based on dip switch position is displayed correctly on the WiiM

So, it's basically the most inconvenient off switch ever constructed ... sort of what I expected, but can't see the reason.

OK, they support there different sampling frequencies, but two DIP switches result in four options. What else could they have done with that fourth switch position? 😝

True! I guess it has to do something, which is nothing in this case.

European, I'm waiting for mine, so I can't help you much.... but the measurements shown necessarily show a 24-bit given the results....

48/96/192K..3 positions.. 4th zero because no use.....no? ;-)

They do. Just not sure why my devices don't see it as such. Other input devices that output 24bit would be seen as 24bit on both the WiiM and Arcam.

@AmazingMonkey You are connecting the pocketADC to the ultra coaxial spdif input I presume? Expecting line in to be a typo.
Can you try the optical connection? Does the Ultra report 16 or 24 bit?
Anyway: I’d do two (that’s three) things:
1) Make a ticket both to WiiM (from the WiiM Home app). Strangely displayed bit depths are not a first on the Ultra.
2) Make a ticket to MiniDSP. There could be something iffy on the pocketADC coax out.
3) Try connecting with optical. A phono signal should have the least significant byte of the 24 bit word live and not zeros like from cd, and should be recognized as such.

Yep, it's a typo, it's been a long day :)

It's connected via optical to the WiiM Ultra optical input. I did think about contacting WiiM support, but connecting directly from the pocketADC to the optical input of the Arcam A5 also displays 16bit, so I'd be surprised if both have an issue.

I have a ticket open with MiniDSP but no explanation at this point in time other than the pocketADC has been measured at 24bit output.

On the Wiim side, there is a long history of this kind of little problem...
on the A5 side, I don't know (settings? coax or optic?)...
just to understand, are you trying 48/24 first ( not 192/24)? optical and coaxial in "a5"?
;-)

(if you have access to a sound card with a digital input, it would be easy to check. ;-) )

I tried all settings, no change. I didn't try coax, there's no option to input coax on the Ultra, right?

coax in ""A5""?
I just can check when I receive mine... ;-)

as you posted on the minidsp forum...I hope you will have some answers from this side...

Yep, looks like we’re all good. Might just try coax in the A5 anyway, because why not?
using classic analog preamps.... for analog sources (and wiim), I will not have the use of this pocketadc on wiim... could hardly make a return on this point....(but other uses)
;-)

True. If I'm bypassing the WiiM, might as well keep it all analogue
