I didn't ask how to use two DIP switches to toggle between 4 setting. I wanted to know what the off position was good for. Turns out it's good for nothing, so that's what it will do.

It turns the output off. That is a function, no?
The product brief (which strictly speaking is not a user manual, of course) doesn't explicitly say so.
Following the description, it turns the sample rate off, whatever that means. Am I being pedanti? Maybe, but to an engineer it should make a difference e.g. wether the input is disconnected or the output is pulled.to ground or the voltage to the ADC chip is cut or whatever. We still don't know.

What other use could it be?
As you noted, if you have 2 switches with 2 positions each, that means you have 4 possible combinations of positions in total. It's not possible for there to only be three settings positions combinations, but there are only three options, so 4th position has to be for something, or nothing at all. So why not 'off'?

Can you answer what "off" means exactly? miniDSP could, but they didn't so far.

No, I ain't got a scooby.
But surely that's a non-issue, isn't it? If I get one, I'll set it to whatever of the other three options that seems best, and leave it there.
Worrying about what a setting does which I'm never going to use seems to be a bit pointless.
