New user looking for guidance :)

Hello guys and gals,

I want to reduce my video and audio setups into one, making a Wiim device the center piece of it all.

This is what i'm looking for:

1- connect my TV (LG OLED C7) via HDMI to the Wiim.

2- connect my turntable (Dual 1229) to the Wiim phono inputs. I have a standalone phono preamp, but would like to sell it if possible.

3- connect my UHD Blu-ray Player (Panasonic UB424) to the OLED via HDMI, and coaxial/optical to the Wiim. This way i can listen to CDs without turning on the TV.

4- connect 2 passive speakers and a subwoofer to the Wiim. If the Wiim can simulate a center speaker, fine. If not i'd like to add a physical center speaker later. Sadly i don't think surround is a possibility with Wiim... Cuz that would be just perfect

5- listen through 2! pair of headphones when the daughter is sleeping. These can be wired or BT headphones (Dual BT transmitter?).

This of course without having to constantly plug cables in and out...

I think the only thing that could pose a problem for a Wiim Amp Ultra is number 4, so i am asking the experts here

The Amp Ultra doesn't have a phono input, so you would still have to use your phono preamp, and connect it to the Line input.

Yeah... That would be a bit expensive...
And to be honest, since my GF and the little one are moving in with me, i wanted to reduce the number of devices lying around... Using 2, 3 or 4 just to get surround seems a bit much

No, you don't need 2 WiiM boxes to get surround sound in this case. The WiiM Ultra (not the WiiM Amp Ultra) is the only WiiM with a phono input, but unlike the WiiM Amp Ultra it doesn't have a built-in power amp. The WiiM Vibelink Amp is exactly that, a power amp (not only) for the Ultra. You could hide it away in any convenient place, though.

The WiiM Ultra is also the only WiiM with a physical headphone output. Since Bluetooth is acceptable, that's not an issue in your case. You could also connect a dedicated miniature USB headphone DAC+amp to the USB-A port on the back. This works with every WiiM device featuring a USB-A port.

WiiM does support surround sound (Dolby Digital only), but this comes at a literal and figurative cost: more boxes. A virtual center is supported, but - as if now - no 3.1 configuration.

Thanks for your reply but i'm a little bit confused...

Or do you mean that i could save the phono preamp?

I read those websites but it is confusing as well, since it first starts by saying that for surround i need two or more Wiim boxes, and later it says that i can do a 3.1 with one box. Kinda strange...

I have a Fiio K9 headphone DAC/Amp which allows the connection of two active speakers. Maybe i could connect 2 of those for LR, and two to the Wiim Ultra? I would like to avoid active speakers since reliability seems to be a catastrophy, even with major brands like KEF and Klipsch, but if there is no other way...

I'm starting to think that i won't be able to get reliable 3.1 or 5.1 without investing in a AV Receiver

But it's not that you need for two to get surround sound. You'd need more than two in the case.

Yeah, i was eyeballing the Wiim Amp Ultra, but then i would have to live with 2.1 and a phantom center speaker... And nowhere near surround Sound

It's probably best to get an AV receiver
