Newly simplified setup thanks to my Wiim Ultra

This thread is not only about WIIM amp versions it’s globally about newly simplified setup thanks to my WIIM Ultra.

You can act like you like and have the view you want. It’s up to you. Naming other passive aggressive is interesting when there are three more fingers pointing back to you.

As I have read some posts of yours I have understood your mood. There seems to be no point in saying more.

This is my personal point of view…

I don't know what [he] said as I've been blocking him for a bit...

An Ultra with a pair of active speakers with auto sensing is indeed a very simples configuration. For speakers without the auto sensing, adding the trigger adds a bit to it.

I've tried a set up like that... with a pair of Quad 12LS.... it sounds quite good, except I find the DAC in the Ultra to be the limiting factor. I inserted an USB DAC in the chain and the sound got much better. Indeed, I could live with such a set up.. I didn't because I got more options.

In my case, I added a Parasound SCAMP which is a device that adds AC switching to a trigger line. But, it makes things more complex as you have to run both AC and signal to the speakers. It works well since the Quad 12LS have their own, per speaker, amps and a "hard" OFF/ON switch.

But of course, I wouldn't leave things alone. so I made sure to run a DAC that also has a "hard" off and on and used the SCAMP to power that too.. With it's programmable staggered turn on, it prevents big thumps on power on.

I suppose though, that a WiiM Ultra amp will be an even simpler configuration. Only two speaker cables required.

For the simplest configuration though, the WiiM Sound fits the spot... it's an all in one. We're taking one on a two month vacation, it sure beats (by way more than a country mile) the sound of the old Bluetooth... even though it weights 2.2Kg... I plan on grabbing a Sound Lite this summer and we'll see how they sound in stereo.

Bottom line, IMH Experience, is that there is a compromise between simplicity and performance. The Ultra is perfect as a bit perfect bridge between Internet Streaming (use Android) and the USB DAC... for the other parts, DAC, analog output, it's compromised. But then you look at the cost... pfft...
