Squeezelite No artist or album listings in LMS search results

I've just set up an LMS instance and have it almost working, but I only see search results under "Songs" for LMS contents. Nothing under "Artists" or "Albums".

For example, if I searched for "Willie Nelson" in the WiiM Home app, I can see songs by Willie that are on the LMS. But, if I click on the Artists button, nada. Same for Albums.

I realize this is likely an LMS-related issue, so I've also cross-posteded this at the Lyrion Community, but I'm hoping some of the WiiM/LMS savvy crowd that hangs out here might know of some obvious places to look / double-check.

Thanks in advance for any help!!

You are better off using the web page or get one of the squeezebox controller apps for your phone. It will be a much more robust interface.

In a web browser enter http://servername:9000 or http://serveraddress:9000 to access it. Best to use the Material skin which can be enabled on the server. Search the Lyrion forum for details.
Hi there - appreciate this suggestion, but we already have a proliferation of music services and apps in our home, so yet another control surface isn't what we're looking for. And... I have the material skin installed on the server, but not feeling the pull. Really hoping WiiM can be a 1-stop shop for music across providers, even if some don't work the same as others.

I am new to Wiim but my impression of the Wiim app is that it's purpose is to configure the Wiim hardware.

Squeezebox/LMS I have been using since 2007 so I am quite familiar with it. By design it was set up to isolate the player hardware from the controlling software/hardware. A slim device...hence the original name of the company that made them...Slim Devices.

So when using the Wiim to emulate a squeezebox, it's forced into this configuration. It would be redundant for Wiim to create another interface for squeezelite (squeezebox). The existing squeezebox control apps have years amd years of research and development making them robust and stable.

I suspect the Material skin is light years beyond anything that Wiim would whip up to out in their app. Not a slight against Wiim, but that skin has had years of development and user input that would be hard to catch up with.

I think I'm more just trying to play a local music library on a streaming-forward app than trying to emulate Squeezebox on a WiiM. And, I j 'm trying to figure out if there's a way for WiiM search of LMS to work better. Feels like more of an API & data problem than a UI thing, especially when other clients make this work. Just hoping it's something other users can confirm isn't working for them, or can help me configure around.

Honestly if you want to use LMS then use LMS to control your music. If you don't want to do that why choose LMS at all? There are many more servers available.

It's a limitation of the legacy LMS 'UPnP/DLNA Media Interface' plugin.

As others have said, if you want to use the WiiM Home app then you need to install a compatible server e.g. MinimServer or Plex.

For my sins I'm using MinimServer with the Wiim App & more recently LMS (initially tried & failed to get in running successfully in Docker but now succeeded) just to prove to myself I could get it running.

As I work in front of a PC for most of the day LMS is my go to for reviewing/searching my collection in the daytime. Evenings & weekends it's MinimServer via the App. I haven't made use of the Material Skin yet so can't comment.

You must try Material - it is streets better than the default interface. I use all day on a PC using an instance launched in Chrome app mode

As I’ve opined on several occasions, I don’t feel it’s reasonable to expect the WiiM home app to be a universal, all-singing, all-dancing interface to all the music services and protocols out there for a variety of reasons: for one thing, the interfaces streaming services supply to third parties like WiiM are never as feature rich as the native apps themselves (and will differ between services), and using “Connect” or casting mechanisms from those apps should be the preferred route. Even when it comes to UPNP, there are apps out there with much longer pedigrees like BubbleUpNp that, while they aspire to that, WiiM will take some time to match.

I appreciate why you may wish for a 1-stop shop, but I personally wouldn’t hold my breath for such…

Agree.
I'd say that LMS is much closer to the holy grail than WiiM currently are. For local file playback there is no contest. LMS is streets ahead.
The LMS implementations of BBC Sounds and Radio Paradise are much better.
The only thing the WiiM App has that LMS doesn't have is Amazon Music.

I am thoroughly confused by this thread.

WiiM connects to LMS and is a *supported feature*.

This *supported feature* doesn't work fully.

I've asked if I'm doing something wrong. If so, I'll fix it. If not, I'll file a bug.

And, yet... everyone has advice and arguments for why I shouldn't be using this supported feature & using its brokenness as an argument for using something else.

I truly appreciate everyone's time, but just because I'm doing something differently than others. Isn't there an Internet meme about people asking a question and everyone dogpiles on why that's a bad question without actually answering the question first.

I could get into a list of reasons LMS doesn't fill the bill, but that's not the point of this thread. This thread is about whether or not LMS search results on WiiM works properly.

I don't want to use LMS. I just want to access local music files. The WiiM USB drive feature is currently more broken than LMS integration, so I was testing LMS as an organizer. I didn't realize using LMS as a DLNA-enabled music store would require me to adopt the entire LMS platform.

Now, this is great advice. Although no one has said that in this thread. You're the first.

WiiM doesn't support LMS as a source, it supports UPnP.
The only way to view LMS content from within the WHA is to use a legacy plugin that has a number of issues that will never be resolved (from the LMS side).

Have you installed the UPnP/DLNA Media Interface plugin in LMS?
