New to the Wiim Pro Plus WiiM Amp Pro, which I love and is replacing my Brennan B2 on which I have 15000+ tracks. These I downloaded to 256mb USB thumb drives (having discovered fairly quickly that a portable 1Tb drive wouldn't work) My problem is that most of these tracks are in .flac format and the Wiim doesn't recognise them when it scans. I have installed Cisdem Converter which converts them to mfa but it's a such a long winded process. Am I missing something or do I really have to spend hours and hours converting flac to mfa so I can play my music collection? And yes I do know that most of it will be available via Spotify / Tidal to which I subscribe.

A 1TB portable drive should work and so should FLAC files. What is an MFA file?

Sorry (typo) m4a. The portable drive doesn't work - seems to need power. And it is an expensive one, not an Amazon cheapo. But to be honest my primary concern is the non-recognition of flac files.

FLAC files are certainly recognised by WiiM devices. I take it you are plugging these drives into your phone and looking for the WiiM device to pick them up - firstly, which type of phone are you using and do any other apps on your phone recognise them?

TBH, for a collection that size you’d be much better off with a NAS solution, even one based on a Raspberry Pi.

This article suggests you may be able to make your B2 visible on your network and not have to download or convert your library. If it works as suggested, then hopefully you’ll see it appear under Home Music Share in the WiiM Home app.

No. The files are saved from the Brennan onto USB thumb drives and plugged into the USB slot on the Wiim. Then i use the app on my phone (iPhone 15 pro) to scan the drives - none of my tracks in .flac format appear. Eg: I have 10 Richard Thompson albums on the USB stick - 2 of them are in m4a. They appear- the rest do not.

The WiiM Pro Plus usb-c slot is power only, not for usb media. Are we definitely talking about the WiiM pro plus (small plastic case) or WiiM Ultra (aluminium case with screen)?

Thanks. Yes I am able to connect the Brennan (via a DAC) to the Wiim and play the content that wsy. The problem is that I am disposing of the B2 and simply want to play the music from it via the method described.

I have both Pro Plus and Ultra. Both recognise FLAC.
The Pro Plus has a USB-C power only connector. The PP can play FLAC files streamed from a Synology NAS.
The Ultra has a USB-A connector used (in my case) for both output to an external DAC and input of FLAC files from a 2TB hard drive.

I have confused matters by getting model names mixed up. My q simply is why doesn't my WiiM Amp Pro recognise flac files from a thumb drive in the USB slot when it scans? M4a is fine - but not flac.

Mine recognises FLAC files ok, so there must be an issue with how they are stored or identified on the usb stick.

Could you perhaps post some screenshots of one of the folders on the USB stick when it’s connected to your PC, and also show a screenshot of one of your FLAC’s file properties screen to see if it has the requisite media tags?

Is the usb stick formatted according to this faq entry? https://faq.wiimhome.com/en/support...g-usb-disks-with-the-wiim-amp-or-wiim-amp-pro

(Info,on your 1tb drive would be useful too - what make/model is it, and how is that formatted?)

Have you tried converting some of your existing FLACs to FLAC using the converter and loading them onto the USB? It could be that the metadata is not compliant e.g. includes ID3 tags, which hopefully a conversion will fix.

Thanks. I'm currently converting them to m4a which work fine. In terms of faff I may as well stick to that I think...

Thank you. That's a really interesting observation. The sticks are formatted FAT32 - I'll investigate...
