PEQ or shelf filter to block frequencies under 40hz?

Due to their working principle neither a PEQ nor a shelf filter can efficiently block all frequencies below 40 Hz. That would require a high-pass filter. You could lower the level of frequencies below 40 Hz with a shelf filter or reduce frequencies around 40 Hz with a standard PEQ.

Why do you ask? What's your use case?

Is it possible to create a PEQ or shelf filter to block frequencies under 40hz?
Yes , this is very useful when using ported speakers .

Example :

in PEQ meny : using HP shelving , Q = 1.7 , gain -12 dB at the same frequency as the tuning of the port . Or HP shelving , Q=3 , gain -9 dB .

This way you get much better bass from your speaker .
