No need to think about the DACs in the Pro Plus and Ultra. They’re that good. Their ADCs are regrettably not of the same quality so if you’re a audiophool like I am you look for something better, even if it’s just for your 52 years old turntable.
it seems of the same ilk.... not much difference...Oh, by the way: The WiiM Ultra sports a better ADC than the WiiM Pro Plus.![]()
as usual it doesn't do everything...the proof. It's the better chip ...![]()
I adjust the Wiim DSP to my liking ( 69 year old ears)
Right, I bought the Wiim to stream but this possibility of connecting my turntable intrigued me with the eq and volume with the remote, so here I am trying figure out if it’s worth it.Why make things more complicated then?If you like the sound with the WiiM Pro Plus and EQ applied better than without it, that's all that counts. No matter what others have experienced.
Few people will by a Pro Plus just to put it between a phono pre and an integrated amplifier.
Oh, by the way: The WiiM Ultra sports a better ADC than the WiiM Pro Plus.![]()
How is it a proof? Who made the final assessment that the Ultra's line input is no better than that of the Pro Plus?as usual it doesn't do everything...the proof.
Just in case you thought this rabbit hole might not be deep enough to absorb you completely ... you could use an external ADC as well as an external DAC with your Pro Plus, of course. The only disappointment I guess is the ADC Issue-oh well
He is using a phono preamp isn't he?I see. RIAA by ear. A real time re-mastering of sorts.![]()
Thank you for the info, probably a dumb question, but can a high quality ADC actually upconvert an analog audio signal?Just in case you thought this rabbit hole might not be deep enough to absorb you completely ... you could use an external ADC as well as an external DAC with your Pro Plus, of course.
PocketADC
The miniDSP Pocket ADC is an extremely compact high-resolution A/D (analog-to-digital) convertor that accepts a stereo analog input on single-ended (RCA) connectors and converts it to SPDIF coaxial and TOSLINK optical digital outputs. This pocket size converter supports high sample rate and...www.minidsp.com
if the quality and seriousness of the engineering is confirmed...will be a nice option to put the wiim with digital input...
(which seems to be possible at a low price...)

Doesn’t seem to be what was proposed. Direct cartridge leads into line level input of WiiM Pro Plus…He is using a phono preamp isn't he?
There was thisDoesn’t seem to be what was proposed. Direct cartridge leads into line level input of WiiM Pro Plus…
I’m using a phono preamp (MC cartridge) into the line of the Pro PlusDoesn’t seem to be what was proposed. Direct cartridge leads into line level input of WiiM Pro Plus…
Yes, with a MC Denon103 cartHe is using a phono preamp isn't he?
I don't notice any difference, but I am not critically listening in this situation either. Certainly good enough. Thanks for the response, so you must like the sound of the turntable through the Wiim.Do you find it changes the sound vs direct hookup of the turntable to the amp?
Thanks, It’s good to get some feedback about thisI don't notice any difference, but I am not critically listening in this situation either. Certainly good enough.
It's relatively cheap to try.I use MC cart AT33PTG/II > Cambridge Alva Duo > WiiM Ultra line In.
I’d like that little MiniDSP between the Cambridge and Optical In though. Piece of mind, huh?
