Plex Endpoint Support / Plexamp Headless

I just had a little conversation with the Plex-Support, asking about the state of plex endpoint integration. As of their last roadmap Plex Endpoint/Plexamp Headless support is listed under "actively working on".
According to the support they are still evaluating it and are in fact not actively working on it. I really would like to see headless plexamp on the wiim ultra, because the current implementation is really flawed.
For example: Under artist pages there are only albums shown, no eps or live-albums or compilations.
Also preset-playlists only contain the first 500 tracks...
From my understanding it should be easier to implement a true plex endpoint, than trying to implement all the functions "manually" and bit by bit within the wiim home app.
I guess there are a few others that would like to see this feature, since also chromecast with plexamp is really in dire need of an update, since it doesnt even show track, or artist names not even talking about album art. But from my understanding that is something the Plex/Plexamp team would need to fix/implement.

All that aside, I am still really happy with the plex support so far, and all the improvements that have been made so far.
All the best to all of you,
Navid

Yep there are a few decent alternatives if you spend time setting them up and are reasonably savvy with IT.
I just took out a month's subscription to try Plex and was hooked. The plex App on my Samsung TV works brilliantly as does Wiim's Home app connection. It could be improved as I'm hoping it will.
The only fly in the ointment now is the cost, Plex pretty much doubled the subscription cost 6 months ago, I got a lifetime subscription for £70 before the increase which was a real good deal.

Of course Plex's idea of what a lifetime is may not be the same as my idea.🤔

But hey ho, I'll enjoy using it while it lasts.
Yeah i love Plex. I bought my lifetime Plex pass for $74.99 back in 2016.
The raised price now at $249.99 from $119.99 they implemented in March is rough.
That is way too expensive. Hopefully they will have campaigns at half price from time to time.

I signed up for the Plex Beta here in the forum now. Hopefully plex integration is coming soon there.

No that is not even near competitive. How would i play my music in Apple carplay? Probably possible but no this is not an alternative for me.
Plex is my choice as i stated.
You didn't mention Apple Carplay. I know a few Lyrion users also use Plex for use in the car.

There are other things as well. GUI is much greater is another example.
The downsides on Plex(amp) is just, no (few) streamer integration. No Tesla app. Otherwise it's just unbeatable.

It's much more difficult than plex, as you need something like tailscale. running to get Lyrion working remotely
For me that is not an issue, have had it setup to try it before. Setting up services through my domain and traefik for example. Thats not an issue.
The problem is having to use different apps on different platforms etc. So the user experience is bad.
And the looks is yikes in comparison.

Yeah alot of ISPs are using CGNAT (shared IPs) so you need tailscale (or similar)for everything remote including Plex..

Yeah that sucks. Yes tailscale can solve that.
Even so, Plex/Plexamp has built in solution for it for the non tech savy with Plex Relay.

For in car use with CarPlay that’s not necessarily a bad thing. PlexAmp playing Opus over cellular works fine. FLAC doesn’t like cellular at all.

Not needed, you can set what ever bitrate you want in the Plexamp mobile client. You can set for example:
Wi-Fi: Maximal
Mobile data: 256 Kbps (Or whatever bitrate you want from 1Mbps to Maximal)

Yes and your point is what?
I am saying that the server transcoding to Opus for in car use is fine and works even when you have poor cellular coverage.
PlexAmp is really strong in this regard due to its advance aggressive caching.

Grumpy much?
OPUS converting bitrate is also set in the Plexamp client app. Default 256Kbps.
