I just had a little conversation with the Plex-Support, asking about the state of plex endpoint integration. As of their last roadmap Plex Endpoint/Plexamp Headless support is listed under "actively working on".
According to the support they are still evaluating it and are in fact not actively working on it. I really would like to see headless plexamp on the wiim ultra, because the current implementation is really flawed.
For example: Under artist pages there are only albums shown, no eps or live-albums or compilations.
Also preset-playlists only contain the first 500 tracks...
From my understanding it should be easier to implement a true plex endpoint, than trying to implement all the functions "manually" and bit by bit within the wiim home app.
I guess there are a few others that would like to see this feature, since also chromecast with plexamp is really in dire need of an update, since it doesnt even show track, or artist names not even talking about album art. But from my understanding that is something the Plex/Plexamp team would need to fix/implement.

All that aside, I am still really happy with the plex support so far, and all the improvements that have been made so far.
All the best to all of you,
Navid

I 100% agree with you. Plex on the Ultra works but not up to its full potential, my Samsung TV has Plex and is a much better experience. It's been several months now and WiiM rarely mentions how they are getting on with this project, they were liaising with Plex themselves was the last thing I read.
Maybe WiiM support could give us the definitive state of play?

I meant to write: I had contact with Wiim-Support. Plex unfortunately does not allow tech-support tickets. If I could I definitely would write them a ticket about their lacking Chromecast implementation. :D

Well that sucks... especially if something's on the roadmap, you'd expect the feature to eventually arrive one day or another.

It was one of the reasons I bought the Ultra. The other was playback from a local drive. Since the last update Plex isn’t working for me at all and playback from an attached drive is not much fun either.

It would be great to have the Ultra as an endpoint as Plexamp is definitely more user friendly and I wouldn’t have to first tap browse and then Plex to get to the search function which is only partially working anyway.

I‘m very happy with the hardware but the software isn’t really there yet and I’m tired of submitting tickets.

You could always try a different server until Plex is fixed 🙂

They haven’t managed to break Minimserver yet. Although that’s only showing up on the phone, not on my Mac. Assuming that that might be OS X related but who knows. It used to work. For the time being it’s back to Picoreplayer and hoping that one of the next updates will make me happy.
