Plex Endpoint Support / Plexamp Headless

I just had a little conversation with the Plex-Support, asking about the state of plex endpoint integration. As of their last roadmap Plex Endpoint/Plexamp Headless support is listed under "actively working on".
According to the support they are still evaluating it and are in fact not actively working on it. I really would like to see headless plexamp on the wiim ultra, because the current implementation is really flawed.
For example: Under artist pages there are only albums shown, no eps or live-albums or compilations.
Also preset-playlists only contain the first 500 tracks...
From my understanding it should be easier to implement a true plex endpoint, than trying to implement all the functions "manually" and bit by bit within the wiim home app.
I guess there are a few others that would like to see this feature, since also chromecast with plexamp is really in dire need of an update, since it doesnt even show track, or artist names not even talking about album art. But from my understanding that is something the Plex/Plexamp team would need to fix/implement.

All that aside, I am still really happy with the plex support so far, and all the improvements that have been made so far.
All the best to all of you,
Navid

How do I start a Guest DJ on Plex from it?
It’s a server in its own right and therefore an alternative to Plex. It won’t work with Plex but does have plugins for Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer, Pandora, a proper BBC Sounds implementation, Radio Paradise and much better Internet Radio plus a load of other plugins.

Yes I know I have LMS and it is good except again like the Home app it is inferior to what the native apps do and misses features.

IMHO it is less inferior that the WHA but still has the advantage of everything being in the same place

My original point was that none of these solutions match the individual app using Qobuz app, Plexamp etc is better and Wiim app is for Wiim configuration, grouping and volume control.

I'm desperate to buy an Ultra but the limited Plex/Plexamp support (and also the lack of integration with Sofabaton X1S) are really holding me back.

Give WiiM use a Bluetooth remote and that remote is procured from a third party, I don’t see Sofabaton support emerging anytime soon if at all. However, some have attempted support by other means viz. https://forum.wiimhome.com/threads/...cts-like-the-power-button-on-the-remote.7130/

As said before, Plexamp support may require involvement of Plex themselves and may depend on their development priorities as well as WiiM’s.

Yeah, I'm looking into the remote bodge. The lack of proper Plex integration will still hold me back though. Keeping an eye on things to see how they develop.

If Plex is important to you, right now it’s not a good match. Controlling it via Lyrion works really well but Lyrion compared to Plexamp certainly is less user friendly and not as responsive either. The latter might be because one is running on a Pi and the other on my Nas.

But who knows, maybe things will be fixed soon and then it really would be an incredible device.

Full support for Plexamp is currently only available with the Eversolo streamers. But you can use Plexamp headless (Raspberry Pi + USB DAC).

It's extremely important to me. My massive music library is ripped to hard drive on my NAS with epic work put in to organising my tags and album art to present how I want them. It's flawless in Plexamp - right down to using live/single/compilation/remix tags. Like I say - I'll keep an eye on things and hope the situation improves.

I love all the answers offering solutions that involve more hardware and fuss when clearly all you want is a nice neat solution with plexamp headless. They have been promising it for a long time but not seen any progress or even a hint of a date so make your choice based on that. I love my Wiim for other purposes but I can dispose of some hardware when/if headless plexamp arrives. If you can be patient wait for it to arrive because I think Wiim is good in general.

It was the reason I bought the Ultra. In that regard it’s been a disappointment. I didn’t intend to keep a Pi running at the same time but now I do so that I can use Lyrion again which I had intended to replace. I‘m pretty sure that the Ultra will do everything I want it to once they get the software right. When there was still a timeline for when things were meant to be implemented, I felt more confident that that would just be a matter of a few months.

Some things are great though. I love being able to eq my headphones.

This is THE feature that would make the WiiM Ultra (almost) perfect for me.

I expected this to be available within a relatively short time, since it was on the roadmap and actively worked on, but resources seem to have shifted to the Plex functionality within the WiiM app itself, which is nice to have, but does not nearly have the functionality of Plexamp.

I would like to know from WiiM if this feature is actually going to be implemented or not, because the wait is getting so long I'm slowly looking into alternatives, software and hardware.

Maybe contact WiiM directly thru the more/feedback section in the app and see what they say

And they can never achieve full integration in the app this is bad news

As I stated in my original post, I already contacted the Wiim Support and they told me, that in fact headless plex / endpoint integration is not being actively worked on, but instead they are still evaluating IF they will/can implement it. At least that is how I read their response.
It would be nice to hear something from anyone at WiiM concerning the future of Plex Endpoint / Headless on WiiM Streamers. As @TimTim already pointed out I also bought the WiiM Ultra being confident that this feature is being worked on, as the latest Roadmap suggested. For me this really is a letdown...

If there is no Plex Endpoint support in the near future, I will probably switch to Eversolo. Plex Endpoint is possible on these devices.
I‘m certain that it’s just a matter of time as nobody would risk getting sued over false advertising. But being patient isn’t much fun. Still hoping for the last few fixes to turn the Ultra into what it’s actually capable of.
