What is needed for the older less technical generation is a cut down light version of the app but that is not going to happen I guess. We don't need any more than music selection and a simple streaming selection screen with volume control and it should be tested by seniors. Open the app and a screen selection of radio or music library is all I need, nothing more until music is playing then a volume control which could also be on the remote. I suppose it might take about 10 minutes to code it to see if it is practical.

The idea itself is perfectly valid and has been proposed before (like having an "Easy" and an "Advanced" user interface.
Who knows, WiiM might pick it up one day, but it won't be easy at all. Friendships and marriages will break just deciding what must be available in "Easy" mode and what must not be. And how to make it configurable ... (at this point they'll have to add "senior's protection" to keep them from accidentally changing this configuration) ...

Not at all. It is a serious consideration of your proposal and its real life validation.
For example, when you swipe up on the WiiM app's playback screen, would it be good if the your favorites menu appeared from the bottom?
When the app is opened maybe a split screen, one part for accessing the radio station(s) and one for the music library. Us oldies have always owned our music library and streaming is a foreign concept for the vast majority of us. I had a Sony 400 disc station before NAS's became a thing and I ripped all those CD's to FLAC and stored all my music on an NAS. Before CD's we had vinyl, cassettes, 8 tracks and AM radio. Modern music streaming does not even get a look in for most of us in my experience. My children on the other hand have never owned music and never will. I think I have effectively derailed this thread unfortunately.

It's a moveable feast and totally subjective. I'm administratively 79, psychologically maybe 30ish and physically 101ish. Never ever experienced an 8-track but did own a BetamaxI wonder how old you have to be to be classified as an 'oldie'.

I can‘t test this right now.
I have just tested setting a preset for a genre for playback from a USB stick plugged into the Ultra.
The good news is it works. You can set a genre as a preset.
The bad news is, you have to activate the shuffle function each time you return to that preset. And that's when you've already started the playback.
Eventhough there is a button in the settings of each preset to apply 'shuffle' it simply doesn't work. Maybe worth raising a ticket.
Another consequence of this is that you will always start with the same track which is alpanumerically at the top.
