Qobuz Qobuz Club - Qobuz Connect Beta preview

I think if all posts are made in the same language, then it is much easier for a web browser to automatically translate them into the reader’s own language, as mentioned above by other forum members.

Now, as we are getting well off topic, can we please return to the original topic. 🙂

Spotify Hi-fi was not in the course of action of its devices, Qobuz Connect was
WiiM did agree to work with Qobuz on this matter, but it's still up to Qobuz to develop their protocol. If Qobuz doesn't deliver then there's nothing WiiM can do about it.

I don't know if they shifted their focus because of the long delayed caused by Qobuz.

Someone referred to Qobuz size…

Qobuz is a tiny company still venture-capital backed.

In 2019 its number of subscribers was a tiny 200k. Today still surely less than 1M.

A tiny company in the streaming world. I do not see their having any IP others do not have.

Streaming service need to add more to their service such as selling hardware to tailor their service to go along with it. Relying solely just streaming the growth would be just gradual instead exponential. Spotify been adding all sort of feature that could make them more. One thing for sure no human being will ever be happy even their money stretch to Pluto.

Amazon music will play everything at the max resolution of the device it’s playing on if that’s windows, iOS, Fire o/s or Android even when connected to an external DAC. However, third party implementations from device rather than o/s manufacturers like Bluesound , Denon, Yamaha and of course WiiM will play bitperfect from their own apps. Where the others fall down but WiiM doesn’t is playing bit perfect from the Amazon Music app or Alexa to their devices - WiiM is still the only one that does that to the best of my knowledge, from the Mini upwards.
I seldom comment on the sound quality differences I perceive while tinkering, but I do feel that the upscaling performed by the Amazon Music iOS app prior to being sent via the Apple CCK cable to a DAC does have a detrimental effect on SQ compared to using the optical bit-perfect transfer from a WiiM device to the same DAC. Thank goodness this feature exists on the WiiMs.

Most companies know rather well where their strengths and their markets lie. There is a world of difference between the skillset that makes a strong Streaming Company (UX and DB and Internet Hosting, and Content Management and even Content Development) versus a strong Electronics Hardware Manufacturer (Component R&D, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Packaging, Distribution, and Systems Software Design). Stretching a company's resources into an unrelated realm isn't done easily - or often.
Unless Spotify is sitting on a major stash of available cash, making a move into Mid-Fi/Hi-Fi hardware (or even simply acquiring such a company) would be seen as very risky.

I think someone on the beta programme suggested early summer
More somewhere between hope and speculation. We don't have much visibility on what issues may have been reported on other platforms, but we know there's still one big hairy issue with the WiiM ecosystem that still needs to be fixed before QC/WiiM is ready for prime time. Since there's at least one Connect service -- Tidal's -- that does not experience that issue at all, I'm hopeful it can get addressed via firmware and/or software updating before too much longer.

A bit of good news:

WiiM customer support just got back to me on the 16/44 multiroom issue:

Our engineers will fix this issue in the next few days. Thank you very much for your patience and understanding.

I take that to mean WiiM development/engineering knows what needs to be done, and that it will be they who mostly if not completely resolve the issue (I'm guessing via a firmware push).

Cheers, all!

Yeah, I got the same response this morning.

Just got an email stating “We have updated the fix version 5.2.712056. Please wait patiently for the device to automatically update to see if the problem is fixed.”

Edit: and from a quick check grouping my Ultra, Pro and Pro Plus, it does seem to have been resolved - playing a CD quality track with no distortion. 24/192 fine as before.

Thanks to @WiiM Support, @WiiM Team for finally resolving this - must be getting close to a public release now surely?

Just got it, and from another tester at Qobuz Club, seems to be rolling out broadly. Testing it right now on my Ultra and Pros, and it's working beautifully!
