Qobuz Connect with Wiim Mini?

I can’t see my Wiim Mini on the Qobuz app since the Qobuz Connect update.

Is the Wiim Mini compatible? I can’t find a device compatibility list anywhere.

No, it doesn’t have the horsepower to support it - it only has a quarter of the ram and half the number of CPU cores of its siblings and you can’t pour a quart into a pint pot ;)

Can anyone provide a link to any page explaining it’s not compatible? I can’t find anything anywhere.

Strange that it supports Spotify and Tidal Connect but not Qobuz.

Not really - maybe if Qobuz Connect had been available two years ago, it might have been possible to implement it if the Mini’s cpu cores could have supported it, at the expense of later enhancements. It’s been clear for a while that the Mini firmware doesn't have the room to accommodate significant feature enhancements (take squeezelite as an example) hence my comment above re fitting a quart into a pint pot. There’s clearly a limit to what you can do with a $90 puck with limited internal resources…

Wait till the next sale and get a Pro or Pro Plus…

If you use the Chrome browser, you can use my kludge extension, which works with the Mini (though it just starts albums/playlists, hands them off to your WiiM, then bails).

I understand that due to hardware limitations, Qobuz Connect does not work with Wiim Mini. But I'm curious whether Qobuz could be encouraged to streamline their software so it does work with the Wiim Mini. Qobuz is a smaller company and presumably there isn't insignificant overlap between Wiim users and Qobuz users.

Is it technically feasible for Qobuz to make their connect software compatible with the Mini (so a smaller overall on disk size, requiring a smaller amount of memory during use, or requiring less processing power to run with simpler code, or some combination thereof)? Perhaps Wiim could encourage them to do so, if that is indeed possible.

As another poster pointed it, it seems technically feasible to have run "connect" software like this on the Mini, since Spotify and Tidal both do it; even if the current Qobuz implementation is too large, uses too much memory, or is requires too much processing power, those are solvable with better software design. I understand the Mini is a limited device, but storage space, memory, and processing power are pretty cheap these days (actual technical specs for the device don't seem available).

i would suggest that the same wiim stuff member who writes such a letter to qobuz can easily clamp another piece of paper into the typewriter. receiver for this one: apple. 😉

The technical specs of the WiiM Mini and other models are readily accessible - see the table on this webpage https://wiimhome.com/wiimmini/overview

You’ll see it has a quarter of the ram and half the number of cpu cores compared to its siblings. While the Mini is indeed able to run other Connect mechanisms, the simple fact could be that there’s not enough room to accommodate the Qobuz Connect code, slimmed down or not. Had Qobuz Connect been available a few years back, perhaps it could have been squeezed into the Mini at the expense of later enhancements.

Thanks for the response and link.

I think it's reasonable for Wiim Mini owners to be disappointed that the device doesn't support Qobuz Connect and further to suggest that Wiim might inquire with Qobuz about this.

Your response emphasized RAM and CPU rather than flash storage and said overall storage may only be "perhaps" the issue. As far as I understand, only one Connect service can run at a time, and the RAM and CPUs are used primarily (if not only) by the currently running service plus the main software and firmware; so again they really don't read to me as the issue. If it's a matter of total storage, such that the current firmware and software on a Mini is basically near 128 MB, then yes that makes sense.

I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect the entry level device to keep pace with its siblings which have a greater capacity, whether that be RAM in the form of DRAM or Flash (both are listed in the table), computing power or whatever. It’s simply a less capable device, priced accordingly.

I expect you’ll get a similar answer if you were to ask WiiM directly given they’ve said similar publicly ever since the Mini’s inability to accommodate the Squeezelite client (despite its reputedly small footprint) the later models got,
