Software Updates duration

Hi everybody, I recently purchase a pro plus. Afterwards I came across below page on the wiim site:

Here is stated that security updates for various product are only untill end of 2026.
Having just just purchased this unit I am now possibily returning it since for me this is a dealbreaker, since spending €250 on a unit with a limited (secure) lifespan, seems a bit silly.

But perhaps anyone from wiim can perhaps comment on this?

FWIW...I have an Onkyo amp that hasn't had a firmware update in 10 years. It still streams from the Internet on multiple services and still works with local DLNA. I expect that WiiM will be about the same. Offsetting any future obsolescence is the cheap cost of WiiM's hardware. The tempest is small and the teapot is smaller still.

IT don't look like this page has been updated for a long time. It don't included all the latest products.

So I would not trust the dates. I don't even know exactly what security updates are. The WiiM devices are all getting updates regularly, including the older Mini.

Unfortunately this lack of documentation update from @WiiM Support is something we see in many places.

Unfortunately this lack of documentation update from @WiiM Support is something we see in many places.

Documentation can definitely lag behind product updates. That said, most companies do publish official obsolescence or end-of-support dates, and once those are set, they generally adhere to them.

Maybe. I would however not trust the current dates. Let us see what @WiiM Support say to this.

It's also a good way to turn off interest in older models (even if they're still available) and push towards more recent ones.
(if it was only functional...ok , ...hoping that a lot of things will come to fruition by the end of 2026....but here machines dedicated to being connected to "networks"...)

The table is also contained in the printed manuals. Even for the very latest products the security update period is still listed as Dec. 31, 2026. So no hidden attempt to push buyers towards new products at all.

Unless WiiM's business plan contains the shutdown of all operations at the end of next year I tend to believe that the table will be silently updated at some later point in time.

And if support is going to end for any existing product, then it wouldn't be much of a surprise if the oldest product was affected first, wouldn't it?

Of course...but the dates aren't announced for all products here ( 2024/2025)...the impression is a little unusual....

(Afterwards, perhaps, can we deduce a future policy for the latest arrivals?)
