Spotify Connect: WiiM randomly appears under “On other networks” (iPhone + Mac/PC) — only fixed by “Log out of this device”

Hi all — I’m seeing a really odd Spotify Connect behavior with my WiiM and I’m trying to confirm if it’s a known bug (Spotify vs WiiM) or something about my network.

Issue (repeatable):
  • I am connected to WiiM in Spotify and basically listening to music. Then switch output back to “This iPhone” (or another local device).
  • After that, Spotify shows the WiiM under “On other networks”, even though it’s on the same Wi-Fi as the phone/laptop.
  • If I tap the WiiM (while it’s under “On other networks”) and choose “Log out of this device”, it immediately starts showing normally again under my network — until it flips again later.
  • It can also flip to “other networks” after I am not using Spotify with WiiM for a day or so.
  • Same behavior happens on laptop Spotify too.
What I already tried:
  • Reinstalled Spotify, cleared cache, logged out/in
  • Restarted iPhone / laptop / WiiM multiple times
  • Router factory reset + new SSID + new passwords
  • Tried 5 GHz only, tried disabling 2.4 GHz (no improvement)
  • Mesh OFF, multicast ON
  • WPA2-PSK (AES) only (no WPA3 mixed mode)
  • Disabled IPv6 on WiiM (also tested toggling it)
  • Spotify has Local Network permission enabled on iOS
  • Cellular data disabled for Spotify/WiiM (tested)
Notes:
  • No other Spotify Connect device behaves like this (PS5/MacBook/etc. are stable).
  • WiiM is on latest firmware.
Questions:
  1. Has anyone seen a WiiM specifically get “misclassified” as On other networks like this?
  2. Any known fix/settings (Spotify/WiiM/router) to keep it always detected as local?
  3. If you’ve solved it, what was the exact change?
Thanks!

Hi welcome to the Forum

The issue you see is not new and has been discussed several times in this forum. I may have to do with the way Spotify remember connections?

Please have a look at some the other threads about this.

Thread 'Spotify Connect: "On other networks"' https://forum.wiimhome.com/threads/spotify-connect-on-other-networks.1902/

Thread 'Devices not showing up in AirPlay (but show up in Spotify under “on other networks”)' https://forum.wiimhome.com/threads/...up-in-spotify-under-“on-other-networks”.6660/

I checked the linked threads before posting — they don’t contain a confirmed fix for this exact Ultra behavior (first post from 2023 and not related to Ultra and second one is mostly AirPlay-related).

Main datapoint first: my friend has a WiiM Ultra on the same Spotify setup, but with a different ISP router (Huawei OptiXstar GPON) and his WiiM always stays under local devices in Spotify (never flips to “On other networks”).

In my case, it flips constantly and my ISP gateway is KAON BOX NET ROUTER HFC (DOCSIS 3.1 / Wi-Fi 6 AX6000). So this looks router/gateway-sensitive (or a WiiM+Spotify interaction that depends on specific routers), not just “Spotify remembers connections”.

Issue (repeatable on iPhone + laptop):
  1. Play to WiiM Ultra
  2. Switch output back to “This iPhone/This computer”
  3. WiiM Ultra moves to “On other networks” even though it’s still on the same Wi-Fi
  4. If I tap it and choose “Log out of this device”, it immediately shows as local again (often for a while, but eventually flips back — especially after idle/next day).
I checked the linked threads — they don’t contain a confirmed fix for this exact Ultra behavior (and one is mostly AirPlay-related).

Question: what’s the best escalation path — open a WiiM Home app support ticket so WiiM can grab logs, or is this clearly something to report to Spotify? If anyone has a real fix (router/WiiM setting), please share the exact change.

There are no fix, as far as I know. It has been like that on all my WiiMs for a long time.

Yes. Try to raise it as a support ticket. Maybe WiiM will have a look at it again?

I do however think this is a Spotify app issue related to its remote network functionality.

Thanks — that matches what I’m seeing. What’s interesting is that the WiiM instantly returns to “local” if I tap it under “On other networks” and hit “Log out of this device”, but it flips back if you select iPhone or restart WiiM. This happens on iOS + desktop for me.

Are there any WiiM users who don’t have this issue (WiiM always stays under the local devices list)? If yes — what router/AP setup are you using?

I think it used to be under the local devices list first for me. I do have the same "issue" with it being shown under "other" networks as soon as I've used Spotify connect once - until manually logging out.

I don't think this is a WiiM issue per se, but rather a feature implemented by Spotify making the WiiM always accessible - also from outside your network.
