Spotify Spotify Lossless is here, it's official!

Hmm

So I "got it" and couldn't wait to get home.

It plays lossless on my phone.
It doesn't play lossless to my Mini or Amp via Connect.

Both running latest non beta fw.
Both devices rebooted.

App says the devices are not compatible.

(Using the Samsung TV app just for the visual aspect / track info but it's streaming through the Mini, optical into an Smsl DAC and phonos into my amp)

Have tried to stream from phone app to my Wiim Amp and the same. It switches my selection of lossless down a level then says Device not compatible with lossless. I can see the change in the app as the lossless tag vanishes.

But just connected my WH Xm5 to my phone. Voila. Lossless. (yes yes I know bluetooth blah blah I'm just testing 😉)

I'm clearly missing a setting or a check box somewhere? Or is it something else?

Rebooting perhaps not enough - try turning them off, waiting a few moments and turn them back on again. Also clear the Spotify app cache if you’re on Android, or delete/re-install if you’re on iOS.

Wiim responded re the 700kbps figure: "The 700 kbps value is obtained from the Spotify eSDK. While we considered calculating the bitrate based on file size and duration, Spotify officially recommends not displaying the bitrate. This is why the WiiM app does not display it.
In the future, it’s possible that bitrate information will not be shown on the screen when playing Spotify."

Indeed, the bitrate has been removed from the mobile app for lossless in line with what was previously done for Spotify lossy. This is in line with what they do with Chromecast - rather than display erroneous info like that 700kbps, they prefer (Spotify eSDK aside) to not display it at all. I'd therefore ignore what the Windows app says.
Very interesting, thanks for the info. It sounds good which is the important thing.
BTW were you a fan of The Bill, re your user name?

OK here's more weird.
(done all above etc)
Just connected phone to Wiim Mini via Bluetooth.

Now it's saying Lossless.

So it's late and I'm tired. Turning all Wiim devices off and going to bed. Where I can listen to lossless. Albeit on my xm5's but that's all I can do for now.

I had been connected to internet via powerline adapters, when I first tried spotify this morning, it wouldn't play properly!
Connected via wireles and it has been happily playing all day! Strange because it had previously worked perfectly with Tidal and Amazon hi res!

No, it’s a place name - several places of varying size bear the name in Scotland as it literally means by the side of a “burn” (stream)

Typical clickbait title and thumbnail :')

He could've saved us the first 5 minutes just by saying he was listening on Android & Windows where the audio is processed/resampled by the software mixer. Has anyone here on iOS been able to check for bit-perfect output to external DAC's? It surely won't be an issue streaming to external devices like the WiiM through Spotify Connect.

dear peter wee. the last thing i want is to make an expert like you sad or angry 😉 i really do not care about you as a person. as i wrote my intention is only to point to the really important things. for you maybe technical things, for me integrity of people. not the technique. the last minutes are interesting. if at least one person thinks about it again, my goal is scored. if all the shit mr. ek produced over the last few years is not relevant for you, it is fine. quite sure you are not the one person.

Oddly, after 20 days from launch, yet no one posted a review about its sonic impressions. Neither here, nor anywhere else.
I wouldn’t expect a CD quality version of the same master to sound different on Spotify, Qobuz, Tidal, Deezer, Amazon Music etc etc. Why would it be different? If it was, then that undermines it being a bit perfect lossless transmission which they’re all supposed to be.

The nerd in me likes to see the sampling/ Bit rate. Wish Spotify and Wiim supported this via the playing now screen or at least keep "lossness" there and sampling/ bit rate details in "more info.".

Hi Burnside, Team

Great news—Spotify Lossless is already supported on all WiiM devices! This feature has been integrated into our firmware for some time, so you can start enjoying it right away. Give it a try and share your listening experience with us. Enjoy the music!
Unfortunately on my WiiM pro plus the lossless option is greyed out and when I tap it a message comes saying this device doesn’t support lossless….

Please check the troubleshooting summarised here.

It's questionable if WIIM actually is playing the lossless audio. When playing the lossless option is still greyed out. And when trying to switch it on the message says "this device is not suited for lossless playback, try an othe device..."View attachment 26781
I get same message. Streaming with WiiM pro plus. Latest firmware
