Spotify Spotify Lossless is here, it's official!

still waiting for a human being which is able to identify a difference between cd and everything above. on my equipment. what is not too bad at all. maybe heaven send me one in nearer future. so i have reasons to upgrade in the 'digital domain'. 😉
I’m with you here. I’m not trying to imply there isn’t a difference, I just want to know if there’s a discernible enough difference that my old ears will hear from my modest equipment to make it worth venturing down that road. I’m very happy with what I’ve got now, and it’s not even cd quality - it’s whatever iOS sends out from Apple Music over Bluetooth, which I believe is AAC at 256 kps. On paper the difference in numbers looks substantial, but everything I’m reading says most people wouldn’t notice a difference unless they had high-end headphones or stereo equipment, of which I have neither, and very sensitive ears (jury is out on that one). I love my system and my new AT cans, but I know they’re nowhere near what anybody would consider high-end. And me, I can tell the difference between good sound and crappy, and have been on a long quest for the best sound I can cobble together on a modest budget, but I certainly don’t consider myself an audiophile.

Bottom line is, every time I think I’m ready to take the plunge into losslessness, I read something else that says I probably wouldn’t hear a difference. Just to reiterate for reference, I’ve got an Amp Ultra driving Paradigm Monitor SE 6000F’s and a SVS SB1000 Pro sub.

Reading all this "low-res is good enough for me" and "nobody should care about higher than CD quality", it is NO WINDER why Spotify took its own sweet time before finally supporting "high-res"...

Since you need to listen at 120dB to have a chance of noticing any difference between 24 bit and 16 bit they needn't have bothered.

For those who have Spotify lossless and can compare with Qobuz, how is the sound of Spotify vs Qobuz? I was with Tidal and switched to Qobuz (currently on a free trial) because I found the sound slightly better with Qobuz than Tidal when listening with headphones. I have to decide by the end of the month and if I get Qobuz, I would get it for 1 year to save money. I prefer Spotify for the interface and suggestions, but how is the sound in lossless compared to Qobuz?

Didn't you consider to activate the trial period?
In any case, be sure to comparing the same exact editions and set (if possible) a test environment where switching from one service to the other is instantaneous, to avoid any biases.
Consider also that producers hardly spend time to make different files for any service, sometimes the cd ones are different in LUFS value (slightly lower).

I'm already on Spotify, but lossless hasn't arrived here yet, probably just sometime in October. My question is for those who already have Spotify Lossless and can compare with Qobuz.

Is there somewhere where i can see the bitrate when playing Spotify?
Wiim home app? Or within Spotify?
Tap the '>' icon to the right of the device name on the Spotify app's connection screen to see quality information about the file being played. (However, there is a bug that sometimes prevents this from being displayed.)

Hello, Wimmer from Japan, a beautiful country I visited in 2023. How do you find the audio quality of Spotify Lossless compared to Qobuz/Tidal? Thank you.

Hi,

I only have Amazon music, but I can't hear any difference. Sorry, I don't do a lot of comparisons so I can't help you..

Anyway, Spotify is the most comfortable app for me, so I feel good.

Thanks for coming to JP.
Please come back again someday😄
