Switch to TIDAL connect !

I'm just saying that Tidal is not an alternative for Airplay and vice versa.

I'm not even an iPhone user, but appreciated Airplay to stream my MacBook's system audio now and then.

"Just switch to Sonos" why? That's probably the worst solution to give on a WiiM forum. There's still the Pro and Mini.
Sonos doesn’t make preamps, and their amp is not interesting at the price.

But I already have their streamer.

Yes you're right, sometimes we can forget that the other streamers in the portfolio still offer Airplay without a fuss. thanks for clarifying that.

My point is that there are lots of offended members blaming WiiM for the lack of Airplay support on the Ultra, without stoping to think that its an Apple thing, not a WiiM thing.

All of you who are dissapointed that the Ultra wont have the lossy airplay 2, try switch to TIDAL connect - much better convenience and a better sound . I dont regret my switch .
Thanks for the tip, appreciate it. I'm going to check out TIDAL connect as Amazon Music seems to have challenges, although the latest SW update did make it far better, so hats off to WiiM for recognizing the issue and working on it. Any way to export a playlist from Apple music and import it into TIDAL? Probably dreaming haha

I just switched from Spotify to Tidal and am using Tidal Connect. Haven't had the chance to configure it yet as my Ultra just arrived today. But at least it's working.

Amazon Music has AlexaCast, which works perfectly and is integrated in the Amazon Echo system.
Tell me more :). Does this allow me to say to my Echo "Alexa play _____" and I'll hear it through my Ultra instead of the Echo? Because that's what I need.

Yes, you can.

Please create a group of rooms in the Alexa app and set the speaker for music to Ultra.

See the first half of this post, before it starts talking about the Echo Link

And

Assuming one listens to old records recorded in 16 bit/44.1kHz, how can Hires help improve the sound? Putting the original music in a Hi-res container doesnt make it better. This whole Apple format is lossy talk and thus sounds terrible compared to Hires streaming platforms seems to me completelly exagerated. I would love to see someone do an actual blind test ABing Lossy vs Lossless

Its not a day and night difference but in long therm listening to music you can hear that TIDAL connect or Quobus is better , the listening fatigue is lower.

Also , TIDAL connect is much more convenient compared to using AirPlay and Apple music because your iPhone/ iPad dont loose any battery while playing.

I also think that one should not support companies that are not hifi enthusiasts - read: Apple music and spotify. But this is only my opinion.
Further, nowadays the price differences between different streaming sources are very small.

I have been trying to stream ALAC from my Apple centric home ever since they came out with Airplay 2

Prior To That Time I Had Been Able to stream to all the airplay One devices (including the old Airport Expresses since 2007 when I left Microsoft for good.

You would be surprised at the lack of iegitimate information regarding Airplay since Apple "improved" it 6 or so years ago. It is so nice to find this site where people share information without all the BS that accompanies "audiophile" sites...In my estimation there are millions of music lovers who simply are interested in being able to stream true CD quality hopefully bit perfect.

I am not going to be able to hear anything above that. But most of the time - I can tell a difference in AAC vs ALAC. Plus.it is the dang principle of the thing! I have learned more here in 6 minutes than I have in the past 6 years.

John Darko has a great video with the help of Brother Thomas on the ins and outs of Apple Music/Airplay vis a vis lossy vs lossless. Been reading him for years & sub to his YT channel since he started it.

Musician I have a Wiim Pro that I have learned how to use. I have the app on my iPad & iPhone My plan is to buy 4 more of them (not the mini because my home is Cat 6 wired & I have 4 more rooms with Amps/Speakers & prefer to run all my equipment from ethernet connections. I am going to sign up for Tidal & have read up on how to copy my Apple Music library over to Tidal.

As I understand it I can connect the 5 Wiim Pros together then cast to them from the Tidal Connect software that will be on my MacBook Air (M2) so that "Airplay" Never Gets Involved. Am I correct? Thank you very much for your time. Sincerely Larry Croft

Yes, you can group or link your WiiM devices and play to them synchronized from either the Tidal app or from the WiiM Home App. Both apps will give you CD quality and gapless streaming.

There are lots of people who discovered and switched to WiiM because Sonos couldn't launch their new app correctly, including me. As for my AirPlay solution, I have an old Apple TV connected to mine--it was originally in the room for BT door lock extension to HomeKit because the main Apple TV that serves as the hub is too far. I'm fine with using Apple TVs and old Airport Expresses for AirPlay as another device if necessary.

Actually, I had both the Sonos Port, which works as a Pre-Amp, as well as a Sonos Amp. Their stuff was a little on the expensive side, although it did work until the spring app release which was so bad that I sold all 7 rooms worth for WiiM this year.

I’d say Darko was a little late to the party there given this info had been available for a while:

Yes sir Burnside you are correct. But that site (Which I had been a member since the first year or so of its existence) epitomizes everything I despise about Most of those who proclaim themselves as "audiophiles" . Before I left that site several years ago the majority of posters/members lived (And still do) in a bubble of their own importance while bragging on their systems. Throw in the faux elitist remarks (The delusional people actually believed they were the smartest people in the room). I like this forum due to the very intelligent posters who share their knowledge with others without condescending tone or remarks. As a matter of fact I have learned a great deal from you Burnside & I sincerely appreciate the time you take in helping educate others. Sincerely Larry Croft
