Tech Tuesday: Deep Dive into Room Correction

Would you like to compare the results of the measurements before and after calibration?

I will try later if have time.
One way to tell would be to edit the calibration file adding a large offset to a range of frequencies which would stand out like a sore thumb 😃

yes....
(from what we can see in peq mode (I don't frequent rc mode...) is not only imprecise...but it is necessary to display (in peq in any case) and it has always been that way... it is also good to enter the data in rew for example to observe the real impact...)

bravo... well seen... forgot my blah blah... your idea is the right one
( after 10khz stay a good option, where it is clearly more in room correction but in intrasec response of speaker curve and that since much much lower in frequency... I fear that many do not make too much allowance on this point)
;-)

I just did a try with my IMM 6C

Can/would you recommend this microphone or can anyone tell me about other recommendable and reasonably affordable alternatives?

(My test with Android's own microphone actually made the situation worse.)

Hi @Optimust
As far as I'm concerned, I highly recommend it. It's reliable, works well and costs little. For me it's worth more than what it costs.
I got to the IMM 6C following the comments in the Community
Everyone spoke highly of it, so, given the price, I decided to try it.
I'm very satisfied and confirm the positive notes on the product

Just make sure to order the Dayton Audio iMM-6C, the USB version with built-in ADC.

DA offer a coupe of microphones with very similar names:
  • iMM-6
  • iMM-6S
  • iMM-6C
  • EMM-6
  • UMM-6
You really want the iMM-6C! :D

Yeah, I had previously seen on Soundimports, for example, that there are also even cheaper models from DA available, but they are connected via a 3 mm jack and that was already suspicious to me anyway ... ;)

Yup the frequency response of the 3.5mm jack connected microphones is affected by the phone too much.

OK I edited the calibration file making all frequencies below 100Hz -20dB. The results show 20dB has been added to the measured curve below 100Hz so the calibration file does work 👍

I just tried the calibration file import for my UMIK-2 (because it actually needs more correction than my UMIK-1). No comparison, no details so far. But the result was the most reasonable looking with my WiiM Amp Pro.

No crazy low Q boost anymore, so cal file.import turns out to address two topics in one go. Now I need just more time to play around with this.

While WHA 3.1.3 brought this long awaited feature it took away the balance slider for me.

Just tried again making one measurement with no cal file and one with my edited file and the 20dB step looks closer to 12dB. Very strange.

My balance slider is still there

@RyanWithWiiM @WiiM Support @WiiM Team In the quoted post the calibration file was edited so all frequencies below 100Hz had a value of -20dB. I expected to see this adjustment in the measured results but the peak at 60Hz with the calibration file is only 30 dB when it should be about 38 dB (without the cal file the peak is 18dB). Similarly at 30Hz the peak with no cal file is 8dB and with the file is 20dB.
Any thoughts on why this happens?

I’ve realised that i bought and have been using the iMM-6 with converter cables a few months ago based on a comment i’d seen a a forum discussing housecurve. Is the 6c the better choice for room calibration? I’m using it with the calibration file so it should be corrected

Is WHA confusing twenty with twelve? 😂
