Test WIIM pro+ with different power supplies

Thanks for more info.
This still leaves the door open for further speculation which may or may not pan out. It still could be the iFi or the WIIM unit but it seems more likely the iFi PS might be at fault. I have not read any other posts concerning the issues you had though I might of missed something on another thread, etc.

I had a great results using the iFi PS on the Pro + but only used it a couple of days then bought the Ultra.

The way to make a final determination, which you would have to have the PS on hand, would be trying different cables to see if any changes to eliminate a cable that might not interface the same as the ones you used. Also having a second iFi PS on hand and even another WIIM. It seems you are not going to be able to do this so just something for others to consider at this point.

I would not be posting about this if not for having a positive result when I tested the same model iFi and WIIM.

The final word I would say is if you are happy with how things are now then just enjoy the music:)

A bit clickbait-y the number of times he mentioned his patreon channel to get more info…

You have to consider that these people show work and some depend on income from that… He’s right that the Pro benefits from a better PS. I long posted on that - I did not go to great lengths but substituting an Apple 5V supply makes a positive difference.

The idea someone must offer all their work for free is rather novel. Spending all that time and labor in the hope to find an audience is a big risk. Having some content for members is a good thing as it keeps efforts going.

Gabi offers a unique, practical perspective and his work is superb. Kids these days. 🙄

Kids? Been a long time since I was called that. I watched the video part way thru and it felt to me like a string of teases - just when you thought he was about to impart some useful info, he mentioned you’d need to be a paid patreon member to find out. I gave up after the third or fourth mention…

It's typically kids today who think they are entitled to someone's labor for free. Everyone else who does, well, yikes! 🐸

I watch lots of YouTube channels where useful information is imparted and the presenters make their revenue thru clicks without having to constantly remind viewers of their patreon channel. You misrepresent my dislike of his video with your assertions of entitlement

Maybe we should all demand payment before replying to any posts on the forum 🤔. To quote Alan Partridge
"It was nice to be talking to an actual expert, not just a confident person with a podcast"

Didn't misrepresent, just responded. I've seen some of Gabi's earlier videos so I'm aware he's offering a unique value to the audio community.

That you didn't get everything you wanted for free is besides the point. The guy does great work and it's not duplicated. I always appreciate these efforts because without a big commercial interests, many benefit.

I'm really curious about these power supplies making a difference. And man, this thread has gone on for some pages too!

I do have one of the old-school Apple USB power supplies, the one with the removable plug on it, I'll try that just to see.

Any of those video measure the 5VDC from the power supply to see if there's anything?

I have a scope so I am able to test these power supplies and do a spectrum analysis of the noise from the power supply. While I can test the power supply I am not able to test the digital output to see the effect of a better power supply on the output signal. The noise from these cheap wall wart switching supplies is pretty high compared to a linear PS. I saw someone test these and found that the noise on the Apple ones was less than other cheaper wall warts.

Ooh, what kind of scope? An o-scope (I have one) but I don't have a spec-an available.

My system is dead quiet and sounds great. I do have everything plugged into an old TrippLite isobar, 4-plug, power strip. And I only have the four items plugged-in: L/R Fostex PMo 4n, sub, WiiM Pro Plus. Using Amazon Basics 22AWG RCAs between everything.

I wonder if it's the isolation capability of the USB adapter and what else people have plugged into proximity on a power strip. Might be worthwhile to just get a decent power strip just for audio.

I'd be also curious what you see on the RCA outputs of your WiiM Pro/Plus between the different adapters?
