Ultra Sub Out / Bass Management query with digital out?

If you're using an Ultra with it's USB out, will the bass management / a high pass filter still work and only send the lower frequencies to the sub and the rest to an amp / dac with USB in .... I'm guessing probably not and is it the same with optical / coax out?

You currently can’t use a sub with usb audio out, but WiiM are working on it

Optical and coax should work.

Smart presets might offer some control of that nature but perhaps not in its first (hopefully imminent) release.

Not sure this would solve your scenario, but you can allow Wiim to output "Full Requency" to speakers while Sub-Out is enabled.
You would then receive Sub-Out signal via Wiim, according to your specified crossover but still have full range when connected via Digital (SPDIF/Toslink).

If I've understood this correctly .... would this mean if playing stereo I'd get full frequency to the mains and bass to the sub duplicating it?

I realise I can set crossover / volume on the sub but I'm interested in hearing what it sounds like if the mains are relieved of lower end duties.

"If I've understood this correctly .... would this mean if playing stereo I'd get full frequency to the mains and bass to the sub duplicating it?" - Yes you would get Sub-out to your sub (With a set crossover you can adjust in the Wiim app) and the Front Speakers would get full range output (Both via Line Out and Digital Out) if you ENABLE the "Main Speakers Output Bass" option in the Wiim app.

This will give you Sub-Out from the Wiim, and the front speakers would not play above the set crossover (In the Wiim app).

The crossover values in the WiiM app will be maintained when the sub is turned off. If you only want to hear the high-passed main speakers, leave the subwoofer setting in the WiiM app turned on and turn the sub off.

Thank you to everyone else for their replies as well, think it may be worth my while getting one anyway as I'm also interested in trying the USB out into a DAC and if they then make that compatible with bass management in the future then happy days

I then use the pre out to the Ultra line in and then use the bass management in there attached to the sub, it'll do it both for films and also for music even if I'm using coax or optical out into my amp which it will only send above 80Hz (or whatever I set the crossover at) ..... have I got that right?

If I am right, does anyone know how that may affect LFE's .... I've never quite understood the difference between those and generic low frequencies or may some of them have a range that goes above 80Hz and it'll send them all to the sub?

That would "work", but I think you would be converting the Line In signal from your AVR to Digital once it's in the Wiim.
I would say try not to convert from digital to analog then to digital again into your AMP!?

The Sub does not care if you call it LFE or SubIn/Out, I would say that it's the source material and the source device that decides what is sent.
The Wiim takes the Stereo signal you feed it, splits it into low frequencies and "high" frequencies based on the setting for "Crossover", it then feeds the Sub and L-R speakers with either full range or only low (for the sub out) and "high" (for the L-R speakers) as per settings in the Wiim app.

You can send "full range" to the sub, and enable it's own Crossover filter, it would then only play back the low end frequencies as it's supposed to.

Sounds very niche and despite requests for multiple simultaneous outputs from along time ago, there’s been no signs of such being implemented with WiiM support even saying at one point that the devices haven’t been designed to accommodate that.

In addition, 1 more USB input
And a coaxial input for bonus

Or release a Wiim Digital Version Only (removing all its analog part)

With its compact size, nothing can compete with it

can let user use premium DAC with high resolution quality and running XLRs to the sub.

Of course, for Extreme Ultra version, adding AES output and input will be nice
surely it will rock, running AES into a Genelec, Dynaudio speakers, AES input equipments

To be honest that seems like a waste of money device (system).

I might be happier with a New WiiM amp with two sub outs for stereo subs.

This consists of integrating 2 DAC parts in the design, which actually can increase hardware cost.
Just an embedded version of my proposal.
Surely, it would be nice if there are two independent Low Pass Filtered XLR outputs for 2.2 system using subwoofers
