Ultra Sub Out / Bass Management query with digital out?

Sometimes I ask myself why people buy a device and spend so much time mulling over what it doesn’t do rather than what it does 🤷‍♂️

Before I purchase anything, I tend to check out whether it does what I want, otherwise I don’t buy it…

This consists of integrating 2 DAC parts in the design.
Just an embedded version of my proposal.
Surely, it would be nice if there is two independent Low Pass Filtered XLR outputs for 2.2 system using subwoofer
Have you actually tried the WiiM sub out or are you just assuming your method will be audibly better?

Running seperate DAC from the source improve the sound.
A general fact, without assumption
This does the same for subwoofer.

Or can I ask

actually...
I don't want the sub out for subwoofer.
I want the optical/coaxial output with low pass filter and phase adjustment for a dedicated secondary dac to subwoofer
And USB output simultaneously with high pass filter for primary dac to the main speakers.
Hope Wiim have a chance to look at this post ;)
Please release Wiim Ultra Pro Max with this function, and 16-20 bands eq
And take my money
What would you gain from having a low passed digital signal sent to the DAC instead of just using a full range digital signal and letting the Sub do the cut of/low-pass after your DAC?

I understand one can get OCD into details and over-analyze, but somwhere the gains will actually turn into detriments and your enthusiasm will turn into a migraine (talking from experience) 😀

BTW, to me your use case sounds more fitting for a miniDSP SHD Studio.
It has several digital/analog inputs and outputs and you can choose what to send where via their configuration tool.

You haven't tried it then. Surely the sub out does use a separate DAC anyway.
I wasn't suggesting the WiiM sub out would be audibly better just that any difference would be inaudible.

Output Flow of minidsp SHD studio
In the example, as you can see, digital crossover can be implemented in the DSP of the streamer, and 2 seperate paths for main and sub.
Users can pair their prefered DACs(for main and sub respectively) for higher audio quality.

Yes? So this would help you right?
I have owned one (miniDSP SHD Studio), for the scenarios you mentioned it is unbeatable.
It also has a built in Streamer that is Roon Ready, or you could connect your own digitally.

Yes, this would help my OCD..
but doen't help my wallet. :censored:
It would be fantastic if wiim has seperate digital pass filter for the outputs 🤪

my idea actually comes from SHD Studio, you suggested.
Or a Motu 8D may do the task partly.
but without the ease of use and compatibility as that of wiim
I can really see the wiim company has the potential to do it even better if they want to. (y)

Yes the miniDSP adds to the costs for sure, but if it does what you need more so than the Wiim perhaps sell one and replace it?
You could always sell again and go back to Wiim if the get the functionality you require.

Wiim Ultra serves its purpose very well.
multi-platform streamer, usb host, digital master volume control with app, fancy touch screen with VU metre
It's definitely a must keep.

But for the digital crossover ability, I am looking for DSP with 24/192 internal sampling rate
will run sonarworks or fabfilter for more accurate room correction and crossover
The RME ADI-2/4 Pro SE should fit.
But looking at its price, it's another story... 🫠

What makes you believe the Ultra doesn’t do that, or perhaps I’m misunderstanding the requirement? If I feed the Ultra with a 24/192 stream and use EQ/PEQ it still outputs 24/192. I don’t know what it does internally but if it wasn’t using a high internal sampling rate, how would you know?

I don't know the internal sampling rate of wiim ultra, and actually not my major concern of that.
But for SHD studio, it's 24/96

Back to the wiim,
The main difference is 8 band peq correction is not enough for my room acoustics.
Settings can be very detailed in dedicated DSP
for example, you can choose filter type from butterworth, bessel, linkwitz-Riley, etc.
For the PEQ, apart from frequecy, gain, q, even the slope can be defined.
For the processing mode, linear phare/low latency mode can be selected.
Visualized pre/post digital level is displayed, so as master dB Gain/Attenuation required after EQ can be adjusted

Which provide a fully customized eq settings
As a result, the smoothness of 8 band eq correction is not comparable to those dedicated DSP plugins.

And I am clear that it's not make sense to include these pro functions in the product
It's just a bonus, right ?
Wiim Ultra has been already very good for serving as a front end audio source

It isn't 8 band it is 10 band.

Hi everyone, does anyone have any news about the usb function with sub out at the same time? When will the update with this function be released? Is it very far from being released?

Yeah, mentioned in the updated roadmap posted a day or so ago
