I has my Ultra with an external DAC (Topping D70 Pro) via USB; it features a trigger in and out jacks. I connect them both so to wake up my Power Amp as well as I turn on the Ultra. I use a mono trigger cable to DAC and another one to Power Amp.
The setup works quite well and I tested turning on the Ultra (it wakes up all other devices) as well as waiting for the idle state (it turns off all other devices), plus used the new trigger control from WiiM Home app and all works as intended.

I noticed that some days - now everyday, once in few days but I didn't took exact note; let say once in a week or so - I wake up and the DAC and Amplifiers are turned on, with the Ultra still in standby. Is it possible that the nightly wakeup for firmware updates is an incomplete handling of the trigger that results in this outcome? It's the only idea that came to my mind.

Cheers.

I believe that the WiiM devices perform a full reboot every three days.

Do you use a home assistant like Alexa? If so, routines may unintentionally activate WiiM. However, normally WiiM's standby off should also turn off the DAC and amplifier.

I recommend testing whether the trigger is functioning correctly by following steps again:

1. Set WiiM's standby mode to 30 seconds.
2. After confirming WiiM, DAC, and amp are all off, unplug and then plug WiiM's power cable back in.

If the trigger is working correctly, it should behave as follows:

WiiM powers on --> Trigger turns on the DAC and Amp --> WiiM enters idle mode --> After 30 seconds --> WiiM enters standby mode, and the trigger turns off the DAC and Amp.

Please test this several times to see if any issues are found.

after testing as per the reply from @Wiimer .
I think that if you test as @Wiimer has suggested, it will work as expected.
However I think you are on the right track with the incomplete trigger function when the Ultra is woken by remote wake up for updating etc from wiim.
I went down the smartplug route as my ultra/ vibelink is in my bedroom 😂 It can no longer wake me up 🤣🤣

Here is the finding: all works fine and I tested that all is off driven by the trigger.

Then for the testing you suggested, I switched off just the WiiM Ultra and:
* As I switched it off, both the DAC as well as the Amp turned themselves on. Feels like missing the signal, the DAC goes by the Power and turns on, bringing in the Amp.
* As I turned on the WiiM Ultra, the DAC and Amp right away turned off while the Ultra was booting, turned on as the Ultra started with the clock display shown and then back off after the timeout.

Doing a reboot has the following:
* As the reboot start, they go all off
* During reboot, they turn on
* End of timeout, they turn off

Feels like a reboot or switching power has same behaviour. None of those ends with Ultra off and DAC on... the mystery remains.

Sorry @Wiimer forgot: no home assistant configured in WiiM. I have Google devices and I use it for lights and such, but the WiiM does not shown in the devices. I even disabled Google Cast keeping only Qobuz Connect and Spotify Connect enabled.

I was thinking to test if Optical connection in place of USB can have any form of impact, may test it some future day.

Thank you for testing it. That's strange. As @Ronnie said, it seems best to submit a ticket.

However, what concerns me is this point.

So, does that mean issues occurred on two consecutive days? If so, it might not be related to WiiM's automatic reboot. You haven't set an alarm on WiiM app, right?

My bad English here. It's not occurring in consecutive days, but only once in a while. Example: this morning found the DAC on, but yesterday morning and the earlier day it was off as expected. I'll track which days it does.

The WiiM device turns on my DAC, preamp, power amp, and subwoofer every three days, which is very annoying. I solved this problem by using Home Assistant to create an automation. The automation checks the player status using the WiiM API and sends an IR command to my DAC to turn it off if the player is in “none” status and the other parts of my stereo system are on. The trigger system then turns off all the other parts.

You people are spending more time on automating, testing and failing in one day than you would if you turned your devices on and off manually during a lifetime.

Having said that the trigger from my Ultra to my power amp works without fault.

We don’t need to turn the device off never.
I can see for sure that the player status changes itself to “none” each 3 days. This is my trigger

You don't need to but you would save money if you did 🙂

The use of this device requires less than 5 watts. I don’t see any logic in turning it off completely instead of using Standby mode. In Standby, the trigger shuts down all the other parts of my system. As soon as I start playing music, the device wakes up and everything powers on accordingly.

If you meant Standby, then of course the device is in Standby mode when it’s not playing.

However, even in this state, every three days the device enters a “none” status. I’m monitoring this behavior using my own automation through Home Assistant.

Did you reported that on a ticket?

True, but testing and validating a feature that come with the device - and should work as you can witness - is not wrong and can help others / WiiM team to fix any issue.
