Updated WiiM Ultra and Amp Ultra Roadmaps Are Here

We just published an updated roadmap for the WiiM Ultra and the WiiM Amp Ultra, and we’ll be updating some other roadmaps soon. You can see the full details on our Help Center (Ultra| Amp Ultra), but here are some highlights and a quick look at where we're headed.

What This Roadmap Represents

This is a transparent look at what we're actively building, what we're exploring, and what we've recently shipped. Some of these features will land exactly as described. Others might evolve as we work through technical realities and a few might not make it at all. You’ll also notice that there are no timelines, development is a long process and priorities shift throughout the year, so we’re not going to commit to specific timing right now.

We're sharing this openly because your feedback directly shapes our priorities. We watch all the forum conversations, app surveys, and feature requests you share, and use it all to feed into this. So check it out, and we hope there’s something in here you love the idea of!

These roadmaps focus on the Ultra and Amp Ultra first. They're our flagship devices with the hardware to support more advanced features. Where it makes sense and where it's technically feasible, we'll bring capabilities to other products in the lineup. Some features will be Ultra-specific by necessity.

Your Suggestions!

These roadmaps are a starting point. We're watching your responses, reading the threads, and paying attention to what resonates. If there's a feature you're interested in, say so. If something doesn't make sense for your use case, let us know, but be respectful. Not every feature is going to hit for every person, a feature you’ll never use might be exactly what someone else needs.

We're building this with you, not for you. The difference matters.

Check out the full roadmaps (Ultra | Amp Ultra).

You may already be aware, but as a temporary alternative you could use twin DI boxes. Used in the siund industry, which convert unbalanced line signals to balanced XLR signals.
There's s varying range and the likes of Thomann, dv247 and other "live/studio retailers" have them.
A DI box converts unbalanced line level (or instrument level) signals to balanced microphone level. There are also line level isolators though but they are not a DI in the literal sense.

But there is a standby option on the included remote control.
Yes, there is. Which again begs the question why they won't put it on the app at least.
The app is designed for not only full functionality but also convenience, so where is the convenience of having to have access to both your phone/app and remote at the same time?
Sure, the remote is handy as backup for app failure, device issues etc. The hardware remote functionality is so basic that the app is pretty much encouraged instead of the physical remote.
The app has every feature of the hardware remote snd more, except a standby interactive icon and despite numerous requests and explanations to wiim directly, it appears to be bypassed with a deflection of saying yo use the timeout option.

And the timeout is not exactly the same as the "off" on the remote. While both put the WiiM in standby, the remote also turn the screen off on the Ultra's. The timeout don't, unless this has been set to always turn off (option).

The app does have a standby button for the Vibelink amplifier, but that’s the only function available for it.

It's disappointing to see that the most recent Roadmap has relegated Idagio to "under consideration" status. I was hopeful native integration of Idagio would be WiiM's Christmas present to its classical music customer base (small though it may be). The lack of Idagio integration keeps me firmly in the BluOS camp :-(

Why the penchant for “native integration” when you can have all the features of the Idagio app and Chromecast it to a WiiM device without loss of quality?

I don’t see a similar quest for an all-in-one universal video streaming app on your tv that gives you access to all Netflix, Apple TV, Prime, Disneyplus etc content, so I don’t get why some feel the need for the WiiM Home app to be a universal music player. In reality, many third party APIs offer fewer features than the native apps, and that’s why I personally prefer the use of Qobuz Connect, Amazon Music Alexacast etc rather than the Wii app. The lack of a universal steaming video app doesn’t stop people using their TV, so why should the lack of a universal music player in the shape of the WiiM home app stop you using a WiiM device?

Sorry, rant over ;)

I agree using any service via plex is just worse than the service's own app you just lose features like Plex missing so much from Plexamp

Native Plex integration with Plex control
Is this something other than headless plexamp?
I would assume not...

Have you taken a look into the new workaround with Home Assistant? Works great actually, all directly from inside the Plexamp app.

And the timeout is not exactly the same as the "off" on the remote. While both put the WiiM in standby, the remote also turn the screen off on the Ultra's. The timeout don't, unless this has been set to always turn off (option).
And the remote 'off' button can have other impacts too.
For example, if you turn 'off' a Sound with the remote then it won't auto wake up when it receives an aux input.
If you let the Sound go to standby with the timeout then an aux input will wake it.

So does that enable full Plexamp functionality DJ, radio etc?
Yes you can do whatever the native app has to offer... The WiiM device will be treated just like a Raspberry Pi running Plexamp headless
where can I find a walk through on how to set it up?
Here's a quick rundown of the installation:

I've now settled with the UPnP option. Make sure to go in the player's settings afterwards and check all the bitrates + disable "queue flow mode" to get artwork & correct bitrate displayed on the WiiM's screen & WH app.

excellent, thank you!

What I really miss is Last.fm implementation. Either direct or via some app/service like Pano Scrobbler.

Next thing I'd like to see is an online radio player with album art display (and again last.fm scrobbling). I think Audials Play is one of the services able to show the now playing album art...

My biggest suggestions are for any streamer is more integrated music services. I know this is complicated and takes music services working with you, but the whole reason for a music streamer is to play a wide array of music. The more music, and streaming services it can stream, the more valuable it is. Casting is fine and I'm not dogging it, but music services integrated within the Wiim app is much more user friendly and a better hifi experience. I would really like to see more music services integrated like Sirius XM, Radiotunes, DIFM, Jazz Radio

My most important suggestion is for more integrated music services within the Wiim app. I think the most valuable thing a streamer can do, is stream as much music and services as possible. While casting is fine and I'm not dogging it, the convenience and the better Hi-Fi sound coming from the streaming app itself is what makes the experience much more satisfying as a listener. I do enjoy your integration of Qobuz, Pandora, and the new addition of YouTube Music. Qobuz Connect is awesome too! Can you expand on this and offer more music streaming services? The Wiim is a great streamer and offers great options at a great price point, but can it compete with other streamers with the availability of streaming services available for it's users? I know that it is difficult to integrate other music streaming services into your ecosystem and you need the cooperation of the streaming services to work with you for integration. You've talked about adding Sirius XM for a bit. This would be a huge addition. Is it coming soon? What about the streaming services of DIFM and it's additional apps of Rock Radio, RadioTunes, Jazz Radio, and Classical Radio? I know Apple Music is probably a pipe dream, but it's integration into Wiim would be a game changer for Wiim and it's ecosystem of connected music services. I love my Wiim streamer and appreciate all your continued work! Hoping to see more streaming services added in future updates!

And the remote 'off' button can have other impacts too.
For example, if you turn 'off' a Sound with the remote then it won't auto wake up when it receives an aux input.
If you let the Sound go to standby with the timeout then an aux input will wake it.
Precisely! I had to disconnect my remote trigger cable as I'd yurn off my main system. The wiim would be waiting to time out and when it does it turns off and triggers the rest to turn on.

It's disappointing to see that the most recent Roadmap has relegated Idagio to "under consideration" status. I was hopeful native integration of Idagio would be WiiM's Christmas present to its classical music customer base (small though it may be). The lack of Idagio integration keeps me firmly in the BluOS camp :-(
I'm days away to switching to BluOS. Currently Wiim are more focused on decorating the cake before finishing making it
