USB Media Library - Artists Artwork Not Displaying

Hello all,

I've had the WiiM Ultra a few days now and I'm absolutely loving it so far. I'm starting to transfer my music library to an external USB drive and I can't seem to get the artists artwork to show in the home app. I've added folder.jpg to the root of each artists folder and they are showing up in folders tab, just not under the Artists tab. Is there something I've not done correctly or is this normal? The Album art is showing no problem under the Albums tab, just not Artists. I did have a search for this 'issue' on the forum but couldn't see info about it.

Cheers in advance for any help.

Tbh, I’d be surprised that miniDLNA which I understand is what WiiM use for usb media would support such a feature - I guess @simbun would probably be able to comment on that

@Burnside You're right, the only artwork in tag view is album art.
With the limited capability of the onboard indexing, it's best to use folder view for normal browsing (to exploit artist/box set/album artwork) and tag view for searches.

Ahh ok. Thanks for the replies. At least I know this is how it functions. Maybe an option to show random album art from the artist is possible or a 2x2 grid of album art? Just thought it may look a bit more appealing with something in the place holder instead of the microphone clipart or initial.

Just to be clear, my answer was based on the open source project MiniDLNA on which the WiiM implementation is based.
It's certainly possible that WiiM could display artist artwork - or something appropriate in its place - although why it takes you to a track rather than album listing I don't know.

If you want something more visually/functionally rich you're better off looking at another server to use with the WHA, or another solution that's compatible with WiiM's UPnP/Chromecast/Squeezelite interface.

If you scroll down it shows the albums after a small selection of tracks. I can certainly live with how it is, I was more curious if I was doing something wrong. I appreciate the suggestions and will look at the other options.

While I don't have an idea how to add artist artwork, I'm not sure if everybody is aware of how the Artist view looks with the current implementation. It's come a long way to the better, if you ask me.

Some kind of artwork would surely be nice. I wouldn't be surprised if WiiM come up with something here rather soon. Otherwise there was no need for the big placeholder, which shrinks to what's in this screenshot while scrolling down.

Despite me normally downplaying the usb media support in favour of NAS and another media server like Minimserver, you make a very valid point (comme d’hab) :)

They also include “Appears on” which is helpful (ignore my somewhat dubious album cover artwork)…

It looks like they're borrowing from the Plex integration.

I can live with it myself but it would be nice having some form of image at some point
Since getting rid of paid streaming services my ultra is my music server with its attached usb drive

Yep.

At least for the way I tag my files, the "Various Artists" problem appears to be solved as well, at least the way I would want to have it. But it confuses me a little that others don't think so.

I'm not going to advocate USB media over any existing, well behaved media server. But for my taste this has developed from "better than folders, only" to something providing a real benefit.

Take my words with a grain of salt, since I'm the one who is satisfied with the Synology media server (with customised menu structure). 😁
