Voice commands don't work

I have a Wiim Ultra & bought a mini & voice remote to use at another location. I've setup the mini and it plays perfectly. The mini reacts to all the remote's buttons. But trying to use voice commands the indicator on the mini brightens indicating it has recognised the mic button is pressed but when the mic button is released the indicator flashes red and then turns back to listening mode, ignoring any request made. I have reset the mini back to factory settings and have tried my other remote with the same result. I have also tried the new remote with the Ultra to establish it is not faulty.
It seems the mini might be faulty. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it a mini fault?

Have you enabled Alexa for the mini? Each device has its own set of services and connections

Thank you, no I haven't. Because I was testing it in the same location as the Ultra I assumed it would just work! I will be setting it up in the other location in a couple of days so will remember to enable Alexa there. Thanks for your help.
