My server used to be in the spare bedroom connected via a Powerline adaptor but file transfer speeds were so slow I moved it back into the living room. The same HD connected to my laptop doesn't seem to be as noisy but it was annoying connected to the Pi.Fair point. My NAS is hidden away well out of earshot
