Do you think it really makes a difference? Logic says not.
It does if the spinning HD is in the same room and you can hear it chuntering awayDo you think it really makes a difference? Logic says not.
Fair point. My NAS is hidden away well out of earshotIt does if the spinning HD is in the same room and you can hear it chuntering away![]()
My server used to be in the spare bedroom connected via a Powerline adaptor but file transfer speeds were so slow I moved it back into the living room. The same HD connected to my laptop doesn't seem to be as noisy but it was annoying connected to the Pi.Fair point. My NAS is hidden away well out of earshot

...luckily, the problem could be solved in another wayMy server used to be in the spare bedroom connected via a Powerline adaptor but file transfer speeds were so slow I moved it back into the living room. The same HD connected to my laptop doesn't seem to be as noisy but it was annoying connected to the Pi.

I don't think I would notice (lifetime of surface noise, crackles, pops, all music too loud & Rock/Metal where it's mandatory to play louder than 11)It does if the spinning HD is in the same room and you can hear it chuntering away![]()
I even tried putting blutak under it. I don't know why it was so loud. It was mainly when it first started up but it was annoying enough to swap it out.I don't think I would notice (lifetime of surface noise, crackles, pops, all music too loud & Rock/Metal where it's mandatory to play louder than 11)
