What are you listening to?

Fair point. My NAS is hidden away well out of earshot
My server used to be in the spare bedroom connected via a Powerline adaptor but file transfer speeds were so slow I moved it back into the living room. The same HD connected to my laptop doesn't seem to be as noisy but it was annoying connected to the Pi.

...luckily, the problem could be solved in another way 😅

It does if the spinning HD is in the same room and you can hear it chuntering away 🤣
I don't think I would notice (lifetime of surface noise, crackles, pops, all music too loud & Rock/Metal where it's mandatory to play louder than 11)

I even tried putting blutak under it. I don't know why it was so loud. It was mainly when it first started up but it was annoying enough to swap it out.

My NAS server used to be in the hall by the router & I connected wirelessly so the drives whirred away remotely but after the main HDs packed up twice in 10 years I switched over to WiiM streaming. A much better solution, with just 2TB connected to an Ultra for Bandcamp & other stuff unobtainable elsewhere.

I still have a Synology 4TB backup disk, almost full with FLAC rips & copies but uniquely formatted. It's now just a fondly remembered relic that I haven't the heart to overwrite.
