What products you'd like to see WiiM produce?

o_Oo_Oo_O

My friend, you must be doing something very, very wrong.

I’ve ripped my entire CD collection, thousands of discs, and I’m definitely getting way over 95%.
No, I'm doing nothing wrong, apart from perhaps wanting meta data to be correct.

I'd guess a lot of what you listen to perhaps isn't mainstream, so the chances of a match are probably lower.
Yes, you have guessed correctly. :)
I'm finding that many of my CDs are not on Discogs, so I am adding them as I go. I'm also editing, and correcting other releases on Discogs, as this is not a valid source of accurate meta data, yet it seems to be used by dBpoweramp.

This has gone way off topic for this thread, so I might move some of the CD ripping / meta data posts to a more appropriate place later.

Burnside has offered a possible reason why (above).

But that aside, If people across the world are ripping CDs and the metadata is usually correct, but for you it's almost wrong, then logically the problem isn't with everyone else for whom it works.

I'm not having a go here, and I'd very much like metadata to work properly for you.

Just as an aside, and I suppose this is one of those ways of viewing things. If your metadata is wrong 75% of the time, and you have to enter it yourself, that still better than having to enter 100% yourself.

I'm not sure if this has been requested yet, but it'd be great for WiiM to sell a desktop equipment rack which will fit current WiiM units.

I think c.22cm x 22cm x 8 cm tall should do the trick.

There are some racks out there, but they often look far more expensive than you'd think, and ofen either just too small, or way too big.

Of course, if anyone knows of such a rack...

I hope WiiM have learned a lesson from the Ultra and don't pre-announce new hardware long in advance of its actual release. I recall the Ultra discussions getting well out of hand at times with threads having to be closed simply because some speculative details were released too far in advance and forum members' impatience often boiled over. Let's just wait patiently and when designs are firmed up and pre-production models have been released to beta testers under NDAs, and it's getting close to actual release, then we can catch sight of what's actually coming soon.

Agreed. My only caveat would be if they knew exactly what the new model was going to be like, and they could inform everyone with a degree of cetainty when the new item was pre-announced, then a lot of those issues go away.

They do typically have production-spec test units WAY before release because of stuff like Roon Ready certification testing etc.

I may be wrong here, but I think there'll be a difference between anything new and the Ultra, in comparison to the Ultra vs the older streamers.

With the latter, the Ultra wasn't just new hardware, there was a lot of new app-based functionality. I remember lots of talk about how the bass management would work (would there be a delay setting for the sub, etc.), and stuff like that.

I don't think there's too much in the world of app-based functionality which the Ultra hasn't now developed, and most of anything new on an Ultra Plus will be the basic hardware (more ins and outs, etc.).

The truly new feature might be the stereo (-mono) subwoofer output... there's a bit of everything currently available, even if some features are still developing and have yet to be fully realized... except for that...

(Then there's the home cinema sector... but there, processing and amplification solutions already exist from other brands, brands with a strong history and expertise in these areas, and not so much related to the primary use of Wiim products for audio streaming.)

Well, that's something that sprang to my mind, too.

But the second RCA out is just hardware. The sub signal is already in stereo, and they have to fold it down to mono for the mono sub out, so no problem there. And as for room correction, I don't see a problem.

Let's say you currently hav a very large pair of floorstanders which go down to 20Hz. Then you switch to a pair of standmounts whih handlef 80Hz and above, and a pair of subs for below 80Hz. The Ultra can alrady hsndle 80Hz down to 20Hz for your floorstanders. Why would it need anything new for the same frequencies for stereo sub outs? At the very 'worst'/most you'd just need enough grunt to effectively have 2 lots of room correction going on instead of one.

If they add a CD tray to the Ultra X, that would necessitate a bit of extra (software) development; meta data/tag search & download, logic for ripping to storage, and perhaps even adding some sort of an nVME drive slot/bay.

Though there are really two ways dual subwoofer outputs could be utilized:
1) To get stereo bass optimized for a single listening position (i.e. left channel routed to left sub, right channel to right sub),
2) To get mono bass optimized for a wider listening area (i.e. along the lines of what is possible with DLBC and MSO).

Personally I'd love to have both options, with the flexibility to switch between them (including related RoomFit profile and bass management settings) with presets and/or based on selected source.

That would definitely require some new SW develoment! :D

The problem is that if it's not present from the start, the first scenario can't be managed or even considered... (unless you dedicate another Wiim to this purpose, etc., which isn't so simple... etc.)
