What's your setup/configuration look like?

New companion for the Ultra :)

DIY amplifier based on the new Hypex NCx252MP module + Ghent Audio case. I implemented an additional 12v trigger input using an optocoupler circuit. Had to drill two extra holes for the input jack & trigger on/off switch. Very pleased with the sound so far! All I ever wanted the Vibelink to be ;)

* I'm super impressed with the quality of the enclosure and the RCA - XLR interlinks I ordered from Ghent Audio. Highly recommended for reasonably priced, quality cabling!

Things I have realised/accepted

1. My knees/back do not like kneeling on the floor to put a record or tape on.

2. Just because the Ultra is my latest, greatest and most expensive Wiim device does not mean it has to plugged into my fancy amp > speakers.

3. HDMI Arc does my head in.

4. I had my analogue equipment plugged into the Ultra anyway.

4. Wiim devices are great for sending audio from one to another.

So I moved my record and tape player to where the records and tapes are and moved the Ultra there. Moved my pro plus down from the bedroom to under the TV and plugged it into the fancy amp. Put the "spare" mini back in the bedroom.

I'm listening to my latest subscription cassette, sat on my sofa, through my fancy speakers and my knees are very pleased with me.

If you even noticed the shift from ESS to AKM DACs, what did you think??

I'm still using coax out so the amp is the doing the conversion as I understand it. I should have put that in the list of why I decided to move things round.

It's an Arcam A5 and I was told it was just as good. I was swapping between the analogue and digital out when I first got the ultra and I couldn't tell the difference.

I run a Nord acoustics NC502, i really like it, great dynamics and bigger soundstage than the Arcam its plugged into.

I replaced the Presonus subwoofer with a sealed Canton Sub 601, which not only looks better with the Canton Crono SL 520 bookshelf speakers, but also sounds better to my ears – tighter and faster. The crossover frequency is now 61 Hz instead of the previous 80 Hz, and it extends the sound beautifully and seamlessly into the lower range, thanks to Roomfit. I also treated myself to an S.M.S.L PL150 CD player, which also does its job flawlessly. All of this is still budget-friendly and yet sounds fantastic.
Again something new 😃

I managed to snag a fantastic bargain yesterday. A matching pair of B&W DM601 S3 speakers in mint condition (like new!) for €50! I couldn't believe it. After Roomfit and a few minor adjustments to the subwoofer integration, I'm absolutely thrilled. The sound is more room-filling and a touch warmer than with the Canton Chrono SL 520s, and to my ears, far more pleasing than the KEF Q150s. The B&Ws are staying, even though the Cantons were a much better visual fit for my listening space, but now it sounds even better than before, that's what counts.
