Which NAS works well with WiiM Pro?

Thanks @d6jg , I'll look at how to access the material plugin from Android. I also plan to look at Symphonium.

Probably a silly question but am I right to assume that using either of these options will just bypass the Wimm Home App and I will not lose any features, quality or performance this way?

Thanks also to @Burnside and @rccarguy.

Use wiim app for setting up the device and using it's own apps

Use lms when playing back your own local music

There is also the Music & Artist Information (MAI) plugin which gives you biographies, reviews and lyrics on virtually everything you play.
I had to get rid of this plugin, as I didn't like it , and most of the artist information was either missing, or referring to totally different artists with the same name, and consequently most of the artist photos were also missing or wrong.

No problem with mine

There was a period when MAI wasn't bringing back the right stuff but it is defintely returned to its old self now. It can't ever be 100% correct but its pretty accurate with the sort of stuff you play so I am surprised you found issues.

i could be wrong, but i think QNAP tends to support their older models for longer than Synology or Asustor or Zyxel etc...
I don't have any general figures but my roughly 7 years old DS218 (not the + version, not the J version) is still supported by Synology.

I run on an ancient QNAP TS419P. It is not supported by QNAP as you can imagine.
There are some QNAP models where they have undertaken to provide long term support - TS-453E is one such - how this compares to Synology I don't know.

The TS-453E will be available and supported by QNAP for an extended period, up to 2029. The dual-screen extension can be used for surveillance or 4K high-resolution video playback. Supports USB expansion enclosures

This is also the case for the 2 bay TS-253E - I think it is the E designation.

I have bought well over two dozen NAS for business purposes over the last few years and although we have other brands in use I can only really recommend QNAP or Synology. Yes they are both quite a bit pricier than say a Terramaster but this is definitely a case of you get what you pay for.

Wow! Thanks for all the help and recommendations. LMS Material Skin up and running on Android Phone (and PC). Plugins for Qoboz, Spotify, BBC Sounds, Radio and MAI all in and working. Now to listen to some music!

Not sure why I'd need Symphonium now.

I would recommend the extra plugins/features
Music and artist information (downloads artist, album and track info)
Album art downloader (downloads missing album art)
release type sepeation (seperates albums, singles, EPS)
UPNP bridge ( can stream to UPNP devices in LMS)

Not sure why I'd need Symphonium now.
Symfonium is for local media, which appeared to be your original requirement, it doesn't integrate other services like Lyrion, Music Assistant/WHA does.

Some of the key differenciatiors are:
  • Offline use
  • Android Auto support
  • User profiles
All in a mode modern, flexible, user friendly interface.
