WiiM Amp Firmware v5.0.636856 Update - Nov 27, 2024

The WiiM Amp and the WiiM Amp Pro are pretty much different animals, even if looking so similar from the outside. The WiiM Amp Pro features the same A98D Wireless Smart Audio module as the WiiM Ultra, so these two are technically closer than the WiiM Amp and the WiiM Amp Pro.

In the end, we all want the same set of features regarding room correction (for all WiiM devices) and bass management (for the Amp, the Ultra and the Amp Pro). But this is a trivial truth. Why not let WiiM developers decide how they are rolling out these features for different devices? Do you really fear that the Ultra will be left out? I don't think so. :)

It's been more of a general comment. We cannot really expect that each update brings something new for everyone, can we? I'm about to pass my WiiM Amp on to my brother as a Christmas present (please don't tell him ;) ). That's why I'm so happy seeing further improvements coming. :D

Would be nice to know what has been improved, yes. Might also turn out to be boring, though. :p

I looked up three releases not containing this sentence for you ;) :
Many of those firmware keep saying that. I should have said many not all.

I’m a big fan of RC just like @slartibartfast. I have no experience on Dirac live which other consider the gold standard. Wiim is not done on rc as it plan to to expand the band and separate sub and main eq along with multiple test location. The joy of RC!

Please review the WiiM Amp update release notes below. If you encounter any issues, feel free to reach out to us. This firmware update is being rolled out in stages, with devices updating sequentially over the next few days.

5.0.636856 (Latest)

Release date:
11 / 27 / 2024

What's New:
  1. Room Correction with Independent L/R Channels: Fine-tune each audio channel independently for a richer, more immersive sound experience. (Requires app version 3.0.3 or higher)
  2. KKBox Integration: Enjoy seamless streaming with KKBox, now fully supported within the app. (Requires app version 3.0.4 or higher)
  3. LMS Server Selection: Select your preferred LMS (Logitech Media Server) based on IP for more flexibility in playback. (Requires app version 3.0.4 or higher)
  4. Enhanced Alarm Functionality: If your chosen music isn't available, fallback sounds will ensure you never miss your alarm.
  5. Playback Enhancements: Enjoy more accurate metadata, resolved skipping issues, and smoother playback for TuneIn.
  6. Auto Timing Alignment: Automatically syncs your main speakers and subwoofer for perfectly timed, balanced audio

Bug Fixes:
  1. Line-In Playback: Fixed stuttering issues during Line-In playback for a smoother listening experience.
  2. General Improvements: Various performance enhancements and bug fixes for an overall better experience.
I’ll be glad when we can use USB with sub controls.

No, it doesn't include the subwoofer so I can't use it.
Subwoofer is not mandatory. I would like to know just 2 channel if there’s improvement over stereo rc. Wiim already said before independent don’t work well on sub. Can you run both just using 2 channel and see if you find an improvement?

I would need to use too much boost at low frequencies if I didn't use the sub. That would stress the speakers and the amplifier.
WiiM say it doesn't work well with the method they use but I am sure it must be fairly common to use independent channel RC with a subwoofer using other techniques. Measuring the sub separately must make it possible.

So the independent did not really improved from beta when you use it before? They maybe actively working to get sub to work but for what’s available it’s just for 2 channel. Why you need a sub? Is your speaker tiny with 4 inch driver?

I can't get down to 30Hz with out it. Can't you try it with your system?

There’s not a lot of music that need to use that low unless you listen to many pipe organs. My speakers are on 46hz@-3db. They do have bass bump so you could hear thump. If I run rc those thump would disappear and cause it to sound tin. It’s personal preference if you want no rc with thick bass or bloated or balanced sound that sound tin.

Independent L/R RC still doesn't include the subwoofer. So still useless for me. Automatic timing has been added but that doesn't really work either ☹️

As WIIM already stated, L/R RC for bass is probably irrelevant as bass location (below around 70 HZ) is difficult to locate anyway - unlike higher frequencies! I am looking very much forward to this feature as my room is not symmetric. In my case - Pro+ - I will include bass in L/R nontheless. Worst case could be to enter the values in PEQ manually which isn‘t a problem at all as you do it just once… 👍🏻

There is more on the way wiim is not done yet. Auto volume, expanded band, separate band for main and sub. Multiple measurements on same seat.

True but the bass still needs to be corrected. I have been correcting over the range 30-400Hz.
When I used REW to determine independent channel PEQ values the result was too much bass when I measured L+sub and R+sub due I think to the correlated left and right signals in the subwoofer. How would you obtain a better result?

I guess you gonna have to wait longer till they incorporate sub on independent. How many music does go down that low? It’s nice to have the range but few music can go down there.
