WiiM Amp USB Album Artist / Compilation issue

Regarding Bug Fix 3: "USB Media Library"

After updating on Android today and re-scanning the USB drive (Quick and Full Re-scan). The issue (not really a big thing) relating to Various Artist albums has changed but still isn't quite right. The album artist is stated as the artist of the first track on the album and not "Various Artists" which is the name in the album artist tags.

I've updated case #526002.

Due to adding a new album to my USB drive, I found the Quick and Full re-scan function, of which I was unaware.

Absolutely smashing idea.

Just one small issue. When I'd added the album and done a quick re-scan, album art was present for each track when opening the album in folder view, but going back a layer it wasn't showing for the album itself.

Doing a full re-scan sorted this...but that sort of negates the point of having a quick version. 😁

Quick rescan didn’t work for me in my ultra - it didn’t seem all that quick and seemed to miss/reset all my tags, so artist/album etc pages were empty so I had to do a full rescan. I should have submitted a ticket I know, but sometimes real life just gets in the way…

Just as an aside, I'm about to get a very big job with reorganising one set of folders.

This is going to necessitate ripping the 8 CDs (and they will exist in their own folder/8 sub-folders), but using the tracks to frankenstein together virtual/digital versions of various singles, and live EPs.

I'm very much looking forward to it.

You need to be careful initiating a full rescan (assuming it's equivalent to a MiniDLNA rebuild) as it has the potential to break existing bookmarks and playlists.

I don't use playlists on my desktop set up. Where I would use playlists, I just create a new album.

Works a treat, looks better, and negates exactly this sort of issue.

I have playlists consisting of hundreds of albums; that would require a LOT of duplication e.g. Rolling Stones: The 500 Greatest albums of all time.

I'm able to sort the albums within the playlist by year (asc/desc), album name, albumartist e.t.c. Not sure how your approach works or looks better.

Please don't start another debate about folder view vs tags 🤣

I certainly agree that it would be a mammoth task, if you had lots of playlists, and wanted to start again from scratch.

I'm not sure the WiiM is capable of playlists that long. I seem to remember some sort of limit to the number of tracks.

I think that limit is on the playback queue which has recently been increased to 2000, not that I queue up the entire playlist, it's just another entrypoint into the collection.
