Hello, Wiim specialists. A simple question from Belgium. I have created a group on my pro plus with my Arylic (soundsystem_64A5). This works fine, music is played simultaneously in two rooms. I also want to expand this to my kitchen to a Nedis (RDIN5005BK internet radio, DAB, FM, BT and UPNP, DNLA) Wiim does not see the NedisDoes anyone know if I can add this device to my Wiim group. I know that WiFi speakers exist and that a WiIM mini is also a possible solution, but I want to keep it cheap for the time being. Very grateful for your responses. franciScreenshot_2024-06-19-11-31-52-45_5592fe85c89b9c7526dd9939eef9599a.jpg

As per the response on the Facebook group, the Arylic works because it uses Linkplay modules similar to those deployed in Wii`M devices. Sounds as if the Nedis doesn’t, so if it has an aux input, you’d need to use a WiiM Mini as a bridge.

I very much doubt you'll be able to group DLNA devices, let alone play them in sync - unless they've integrated Sonos/HEOS groupings.

Hopefully we'll find out in the coming days.
It may be possible to group DLNA devices (pure speculation) but it is almost certainly the case, as you say, that they will not play in sync unless they are a part of a group that has it owns syncing mechanism, like Sonos speakers. In that case, casting to one Sonos device should be all that is needed.

As I understand it, the player just sends the data to the DLNA device but has no control of it after than. I have tried to sync DLNA speakers with other players, like JRiver, but they always drift over time. I have been told that there is a syncing methodology within the DLNA spec, but it has not been generally implemented.

Using DNLA Cast to link Sonos speakers should allow then to be in sync. I have had success syncing two Wiims, one connected to a DAC and one coonected to the analog input of a Sonos speaker, so I am hoping that sync can be maintained between a set of Sonos speakers with DLNA cast and Wiim connected devices. If so, that would be a huge step forward without having to use the analog input and would be a nice option for those people current disgruntled with Sonos. But time will tell. DLNA is sometimes tricky.

HEOS is what underpins Denin/Marantz/Heos AVR multi room and other features. It supports some of the major streaming services, but surprisingly not Qobuz, although Qobuz seem to be developing Qobuz Connect with them as primary partners. While it also supports Amazon Music (the reason I originally got a Heos Link HS2), I often describe its app as execrable…

Thank you. You are not making me elated 😉
Within the next days I will receive a test sample of the new M1 for writing a few more or less smart impressions of the usability and quality of the app. The technical judgement will be made by others.

Casting to grouped/paired Sonos speakers works suprisingly well from a standard UPnP control point. Let's hope WiiM can hide the slave speakers otherwise it gets a little busy.

The controller (WiiM Home app in this instance) sends the renderer the URL of a stream to play, after that it's up to the renderer to go and retrieve it. I'd be very surprised if even a single renderer had a constant delay from the moment you send it the URL to the time it takes to play, so I hope they keep things nice and simple (no sync), at least initially.

I have been told that there is a syncing methodology within the DLNA spec, but it has not been generally implemented.
I believe you're thinking of SongCast which is an extension to UPnP, much like OpenHome, from Linn, but I don't think it's in the UPnP spec.

I have had success syncing two Wiims, one connected to a DAC and one coonected to the analog input of a Sonos speaker, so I am hoping that sync can be maintained between a set of Sonos speakers with DLNA cast and Wiim connected devices.
In this setup the WiiM's are preventing the drift.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I'd much prefer a robust implementation than one that works some of the time, or for only certain speakers. Plus, if it works too well where's the incentive to buy more WiiM's :)

Yes, I do it regularly from JRiver.

Actually I have been told by a DLNA expert that it is in the DLNA spec, but has not been implemented. In any case, you need a built-in sync mechanism like Sonos has to keep the speakers in sync. DLNA alone will not do it.

Yes, Wiim has done a good job with this. The issue is whether the Sonos DLNA acts like the analog in terms of timing. I hope so, but I do not think it is a given.

Agreed.

Probably your Nedis is with 3.xxxx firmware,i have also Wiim ,Arylic amp and 3 Nedis players, all Nedia come with 3.xxxx firmware and i update it with 4.xxxx firmware and they show in group

Firmware version 4.8.620530 has just arrived for my WiiM Pro devices, this is for the DLNA Cast (Beta).

Also version 4.8.620536 has arrived for my WiiM Pro Plus, also the DLNA Cast (Beta).
