Hi Guys!
I bought Wiim Ultra and pair of active speakers with integrated amps.
Think to order now REL T7X subwoofer, but I found in manual that they highly recommend to connect the sub as an inactive speaker for best quality. Screenshot from manual attached.

Anyone tried to connect such sub to Wiim Ultra? Which connection method you use? How is the quality?

I’m thinking that maybe it will not perform as well as it should if just connecting through sub out on Wiim and then maybe not even worth to overpay for this nicely sounding sub and just order something a bit cheaper.

It shouldn't make a difference, but grounded mode should be the default that only needs to be changed if you encounter humming from the sub.

Settings looking good in theory on the sub and in the WiiM Home app. Except from the missing power cord, of course. ;)

As suggested before, are you sure that there really is any output from the subwoofer? Temporarily set the crossover frequency in the WiiM Home app to 250 Hz just for testing and listen again. Did you remove the grill and can actually see the cone moving?

Just to rule out the "upgraded fuse" as non-working. :)
Do I need to plug to the socket? 🤣🤣 kidding)

I checked if the cone was moving and it did. Just the sound is quite weak, still waiting for the more quality sub cable to arrive.

Ok one more thing to mention, the guy who sold them to me did an upgrade.

1 - Synergistic Research Blue fuse
2 - 1.5m Van den Hul Mainsstream Hybrid DIY power cord with IeGO 8085 gold plugs

But if anything these mods should enhance the sub I assume)

Hi. Thanks. The filter is off on the sub and on in the Wiim App. I wonder if grounded/isolated has anything to do with the output?

Or as I said try turn on filter on sub, set frequency on 60-70 and turn on sub filter bypass on wiim app. At least you will know if wiim is not your problem.

P.S. I think default input on sub should be on Left, probably no difference, but try.

So my new fancy Y split cable has arrived. But no progress. I almost gave up, thinking that I bought a faulty sub. In a last attempt I placed the sub behind the seating position using the cheap RCA (because the new cable is not that long) and to my surprise the volume is now on par with my speakers. I made some measurements and the dip at 50hz is now only -4db, however now there is a massive hump at 80-100hz +8db)). The room correction is not helping much so now I am playing with custom PEQ. Is there a way to measure the results of custom EQ so to assess if I am moving at the right direction?

Try REW room sim, that can give an idea where a good locations are.

Ideally you want REW & UMIK 1 and get an idea what needs correcting

Not through the WiiM Home app (yet, although WiiM have reacted positively to a request to implement what's currently the evaluation measurement to be performed any time).

Ok. So now I finally found out the reason for the low volume of the sub. The fancy upgraded power cable had a poor connection 🤦🏻😅, will send to repair.

So now I have the sub placed in between the speakers. The crossover set at 60hz, the gain 50%, polarity 0, phase 90, LPG Off.

I still have a dip at around 50hz)) guess can’t do much about considering the dimensions of my room.

On the positive note, the volume of the sub is on par with the speakers now. I can tell that a sub brings some more dimension into the music, and more physical presence, especially to what I listen often EDM (Who Made Who in photo))..

My next question, will I be able to use the sub out in the Ultra when I hook up an external DAC?

I wouldn't bother repairing the "upgraded" cable. Unless you sell it to an "audiophile" 😃

Never would of thought of the power cable:)
Is it a shared room or for music?
If just music( media) maybe acoustic panels or diffusers?
It’s a dedicated room. I have ordered cheap corner bass traps from Ali Express)) but no significant difference) it is a much more complex and costlier issue I assume)

To be honest I know little about it other than it stops a lot of reflections but I do know that it can really help, the room I listen to music in is a family lounge so unfortunately not going to happen for me:(
There is lots of info on the Internet on the subject even diy projects that appear fairly simple.

I have talked with some experienced audiophiles, they told me that it’s the physics of small rooms. Somethings you can’t fix, but to be honest that 4-5db dip at 50hz (after all the adjustments) is nothing too crucial I suppose. I was told that not too much music information is located at that frequency anyway..)
