I played around right from the start, first with Room Correction, then with Room Fit, and finally with the overlaid RF+ EQ. I created many profiles (too many) with different settings and kept going. One day, I had a flash of inspiration!! But...what am I doing?
I suddenly realized that I was simply not listening to the music anymore. The ear was no longer tuned to listening to the music, but... it was tuned to perceive the slightest differences between the various profiles. Moreover, without ever finding a universally valid profile. At one point A seemed best to me, then D seemed best, and then F seemed best again. A big mess.
To my horror, I discovered that music was not the purpose of listening, but a means of comparing various profiles.
I was horrified. Hence my Draconian decision. I disabled both the RF and the EQ. I went back to listening to music with the system as is. Bottom line? A joy to listen to. I can once again enjoy listening to music by listening to the music, not the stereo.
I'm happy with my decision. These toys are cute and fun, but they're confusing.
I'd already had this experience when I was 20. I added an equalizer to my system. At first, it seemed amazing, but after a while... uhhm, how did it end? I quickly sold the EQ.
Of course, this is my personal experience.
Happy Holidays to everyone!
