My company lawyer months ago pointed out that as long as I own a paid copy and I do use it for private reasons it should be ok. If he is wrong I am guilty of many such issues. But of course you are right. Especially Spotify (and one or another company more) is a matter of heart for me. So I take the riskI'm no fan of Spotify or their horrible business practices. That said I would like to point out the irony of complaining about "legally" stealing when you republished a magazine article here for all to read without compensating the publisher or author. Good read though. Peace.
Agree with your assumption, the others are far from a charity either. Long before streaming music took off it was (is) the same problem with radio plays. The biggest artists got the most money and nothing really has changed since...How much better are the other streaming companies really for smaller producers? I do notlisten to mainstream music, so smaller streaming companies ate difficult for me as they do not have a wide variety of - let‘s say progressive electronic music. So how much better is Apple Amazone and rhe likes for artists?

Well, that's really not a unique selling point of Spotify.
When I started streaming many years ago, I was also initially on Spotify and switched because of the constant and unfulfilled hi-fi promises. On the contrary (and even more so when I open Spotify today, horrible interface), I don't regret it, rather I should be annoyed that I didn't do it earlier...
It may just seem that way to me, but I think Tidal is also a bit more serious, more grown-up when it comes to suggestions. Spotify is more mainstream, Tidal is more in-depth.
Incidentally, I also had amazon music for more than a year, and I also liked it better than Spotify in terms of suggestions.
But like many things, it's a matter of personal preference.
