Amirm’s review of the WiiM Ultra

“What the artist intended” may indeed be a stretch, but “the intent at the end of the mastering process” certainly isn’t.
Yes, I totally agree. But there are also compromises when mastering. For instance adapting to streaming, loudness wars etc. I understand the value of measurements, eq, room treatment etc but I think that we often rely too much on all that. What sounds good to me may not sound as good to you. I just was trying to point out the importance of selecting the right gear for your listening space and enjoying the music, not the numbers

It's interesting to read the thread now that after Amirms review all seem to agree that the phono stage sucks. But to me, just using my ears I think it sounds very good to be honest.
I certainly didn't agree because I made up my mind long before Amir's review. :)

I just don't think it's really suitable for MC cartridges. Amir originally hadn't even published THD+N/SINAD for the MM setting, but for the MC setting only. That didn't look to good. He added the graphs for MM when I asked about it.

The phono input might not be exceptional but it's good enough in many cases.

Particularly when some think vinyl has a SINAD of 25dB 🤣

When we all know it's 15 dB, max. 😜

:ROFLMAO:

PS:
This week I listened to one of my favourite records again after a way too much time. This must be one of the finest LPs I own, musically and technically.
Could have.posted that to the new music section but it just fits nicely here.

Once again, it’s time to wheel out…

And a reminder to golden ears members, that the differences they claim to hear are between equipment far more closely specced than any used in

+1 here. I think also it’s pretty good, at least with my cartridge. I believe Amir talks about noise. Since I don’t ear any noise from it and it sounds great… it’s good for me.

Did you use the Wiim ultra phono stage when listening? What record was it?
