Amp ignores Bluetooth Out when using Optical In

I have a Wiim Amp paired with a set of Sony XM5 headphones and set to Bluetooth Out in the app. When audio input is over Wi-Fi, e.g. Spotify Connect or Google Cast from my phone, the amp outputs to Bluetooth and I hear the sound in my headphones as intended. But when switching input to Optical In (from a tv), the sound falls back to the speakers despite the app still showing the output device is the connected headphones.

I originally had the default input set to Wi-Fi and optical auto-sensing turned on. I tried turning that off and manually setting input to optical, but it didn't fix the issue. Reboot didn't help either.

Does anyone know of a solution for this, or any other troubleshooting steps I can take?

Firmware 5.0.721345.

Are you using presets to switch between sources? If so, the output might have been set to "Speaker out" instead of "Follow Current Output" in the definition of said preset. Got to Favourites => Presets => See All and hit the three dot menu next to the preset to check its Audio Output setting.

I'm not aware of feature like a "default input".

Thanks for the reply harkpabst. I was not using presets but checked the one I had set up just in case and it was set to follow current output. I don't think that was it.

By default input I just meant I left the input set to Wi-Fi and I turned on the auto-sensing, which worked for speaker output. But I'm not getting Bluetooth output from optical in whether I use auto-sensing or manually set the input to optical.

Good to know, so we can probably rule this out.

That's rather strange. The output should be totally unrelated to the input or auto-sensing of inputs.

You have the original WiiM Amp, not the WiiM Amp Pro or WiiM Amp Ultra, right? Firmware updated to v5.0.723459? The only know difference with Bluetooth output is that EQ is not applied.

If you can easily reproduce the issue your best bet is probably to do just that and then send feedback to WiiM directly from within the WiiM Home app. Open the More tab and hit Feedback. Device logs will be sent along with your description so WiiM engineers might be able to see what's going on.

Interesting, it looks like I don't have the most recent firmware - they're rolling it out gradually so I may wait until I get it. If the problem isn't fixed then I'll send feedback.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, absolutely. I tend to jokingly say that better looking customers take precedence over those celebrating bad hair day, but in fact (just like many other software companies) WiiM seem to role out their updates to a smaller group of devices first, which makes a lot of sense in my book. Just make sure that you are not on any beta firmware (Device Info => Join Beta Testing). Even if you cannot remember having entered a beta firmware programme, just double check your device is not part of any beta. Luckily, you can now join and leave beta programmes any time you like.

This is pretty cool, I think.
