Amp Ultra not entering standby after auto-stop

Hi, I’m using the WiiM Amp Ultra and mostly listen to YouTube Music through Chromecast.

When I stop playback manually, the screen turns off and the device goes into standby after the 30 seconds I set. That part works fine.

But if I leave the house while music is still playing, when I come back the music has already stopped on its own. In this case, since the playback ended automatically, I’d expect the unit to enter standby. Instead, the screen stays on, the device doesn’t go into standby, and it even gets warm.

For example, if I start YouTube Music on another device, playback on the WiiM Amp Ultra stops automatically. But again, it doesn’t switch to standby — the screen just stays on.

Is this a bug, or am I missing a setting?

Turn off the music before you going out.

Unlike Bluetooth, Chromecast does not send music played on the phone to WiiM; music is sent directly from YouTube music to WiiM over the network.

Therefore, I think if you don't stop the music on your phone, Chromecast will stay connected and the WiiM will continue to play music.

By "the screen stays on" you mean that it still displays the last Now Playing Screen? Not the selected Standby Screen Wallpaper?

In the scenario you mention it is rather a bug the that music isn't still playing when you come back home. As @Wiimer pointed out, Chromecast built-in devices will retrieve the music stream directly from the server, not through the smartphone.

Surely music will stop when the playlist ends.

Maybe the playlist ends and autoplay continues. Also it doesn't stop if repeat is turned on.

I'm just not sure what the OP's situation is, but I know that Chromecast sometimes behaves strangely..

I have confirmed that when the Youtube music playlist finishes playing, it will start Auto-play.

If I connect to the Amp Ultra with the Chromecast, start playback, and turn off the phone network, the Amp will continue to play. So far so good as expected.

@sunjinkim,
As @harkpabst said, let us know what your Amp Ultra screen is showing when you get home. Also, open the WiiM app and see what the Amp Ultra's 'Now Playing Screen' looks like. Please post a screenshot if you can.

Can't you turn auto-play off?

Do you listen to YouTube Music (via Bluetooth) when you are out and about?
If so, that's probably the reason.

I performed a quasi-test.

After starting music playback via Chromecast, I turned off the phone's Wi-Fi: the Amp Ultra played the playlist to the end, the music stopped and after 30 seconds it went into standby mode. The result is the same for album playback.

I also tested the system with the assumption that I would be listening to music on the Bluetooth earbuds while I were out and about.

1) Play music on Amp Ultra.
2) Turn off Wi-Fi on the phone. (Go out)
3) Put the earbuds on your ears and the music will automatically play.
(The two devices are playing the same playlist.)

4) Amp Ultra will start announcing in English when one track has finished playing. Playback does not stop, but the sound stops.
(Probably because Youtube music does not allow simultaneous playback on multiple devices).

5) The Amp Ultra screen remains lit and does not enter standby mode.
6) Music stops when the earbuds are removed from the ear.
7) Switch on the phone's Wi-Fi. (Return to home)
8) Tap the play button in the YouTube music app and music will play from the phone's speaker.

9) The Amp Ultra screen is still lit and playing, but no sound is coming out of the speaker.

10) Playback cannot be stopped by pressing the playback button on the WiiM remote. The same applies to the playback button on the screen.
11) However, after 30 seconds the device enters standby mode and the screen turns off.
12) At this point the Chromecast stops working properly.
13) After restarting the YouTube music app and reconnecting to the Amp Ultra, playback is normal.

@WiiM Team, @WiiM Support,

It is not yet known if this phenomenon is related to the @sunjinkim issue, but when Youtube Music is played on multiple devices at the same time, playback does not stop after the warning announcement is made on the WiiM and the playback continues without sound.

This is a reproduction video of simultaneous playback on the WiiM and Bluetooth earbuds following the aforementioned procedure.

No sound is coming out of the speakers, but Amp Ultra continues to play and will not enter standby mode. This may be a YouTube Music issue, but can this be resolution on the WiiM side?

Note that in my testing, the WiiM music sometimes stopped when playback started on the earbuds, and this could not always be reproduced. This seems to occur in certain situations.

Thank you.

When I opened the playlist play queue, there was an on/off toggle at the bottom of the list.

Thank you for this. I had been looking for the option to turn AutoPlay off and finally found it after reading your post. Mine was also on by default in the actual YTM app, but there doesn't appear to be the same option in the WHA API version. I assume turning it off in the main app is sufficient, but perhaps it needs to be done on all devices with YTM installed?

I'm out of the office at the moment so will check later, but I don't think there is anything to do on the WiiM side once it is turned off in the YTM app. (Maybe you need to turn it off on each phone, I'm not sure...)

When I play YouTube Music on the Amp Ultra and leave it on without turning off the power, then listen to YouTube Music outside the house, the Amp Ultra at home stops playback due to simultaneous access. At that point, it seems to go into standby mode, but the Chromecast screen still shows YouTube Music as if it’s playing, even though no sound is coming out.

I would expect the Amp Ultra to go into standby mode once the sound stops and playback is halted, but it doesn’t.

I haven’t checked whether the warning message appears after leaving the house, but in the same situation, when the screen stays on and frozen like that, the Amp Ultra does not go into standby mode even if it stays that way all day.

I tested it and got the same result—the warning sound goes off, it stops, and in that state it doesn’t go into standby, the screen just stays on. I wish it would switch to standby in that situation. I often forget and leave it on when I go out, so I hope this can be fixed in a future update.
